How about Grigorenko(12th), Girgensons(14th), Armia(16th), Kassian(13th)? - jdfitz77
Different management. Mittelstadt is in the NHL last time I checked. If he played with NHL level talent he wouldn’t look as bad. Thompson was a late first rounder in 2016 and saw time as early as last season.
From the Athletic. Beane on not drafting for need:
Beane: I think I’ve said it before — you use free agency to help you so you’re not going to the draft in April with all these holes, and now you’re drafting for need. I promise you drafting for need is a mistake that can set franchises back, and I’m not going to do that as long as I’m in charge here.
Analysis: Don’t expect the Bills to ramrod a wide receiver or offensive lineman onto their roster with their top-10 pick. Beane isn’t blind to the Bills’ needs on offense, but he’s intent on sticking to his philosophy of drafting the best player. Let’s face it, the Bills aren’t in a position to be passing on talented players at any position. Outside of quarterback and safety, can we confidently say the Bills don’t need any position on the field? Yes, they need some positions more than others, but they need good football players above all else. This draft looks defensive heavy at the top, and Beane won’t be swayed by public opinion if a defensive prospect is at the top of his board. - Sabre_Tooth

Yeah, he’s here
But not doing anything
And Sheary & Okposo are NHL wingers
Thompson, also not doing anything
And also...
check the 1st round picks when Botts was AsstGM in Pitt
Many didn’t work out there also
Your expectations seem unrealistic to me
I certainly hope you’re right though
Why are people so quick to bury Mitts and Nylander?
We all know the story with Grigs. Too much, too soon.
Kassian? Head case.
Girgs? Misses Teddy. - Powerslave
I’m not at all
What I’m saying is that in many cases,
1st round picks don’t work out right away
You usually have to wait years before they make an impact
Pegulaville is acting like these guys we draft the next 2 years will be able to make an impact soon
There’s a decent amount of 1st rounders that NEVER make an impact
I’m saying that if we are waiting for these draft picks to save us...
could be waiting 5years
That’s way too long of a wait for me to be depending on them
Sure, but Kane's continuous antics caused Boots to have no choice but to move him.
It is what it is, ownership gave him the direction that he had to sell him.
ROR practically dictated a trade out of hete with his year-end statement.
Botts had to go into replacement mode, those two staying was not an option.
Soon, he needs to jetison a couple of contracts that will be tough to unload...but needs to get rid of them so he can then get into upgrade mode - IonSabres
I know, i know, i know
Still doesn’t change that simply REPLACING the scoring wasn’t nearly enough
And we needed to MAJORLY UPGRADE it
I warned ppl that unless just about everything worked out for us,
that we’d be struggling to score goals

The first rounders might not be star players, but ill be surprised if they aren't at the very least playing for this team.
By the end of the season 9 guys picked in the first round from picks 10-30 from the 2016 draft will have played at least 20 games in the NHL. If you include 2nd rounders Debrincant and Girard that makes 11 guys. So from that draft its 41% success rate of guys picked 10th overall on in the first round and this would be their draft+2 season.

Sheary and Okposo have what a combined 5 points in their last 50 games ? Might be AHL wingers but not NHL. Idc who is playing Centre on that line that's putrid.

Your definition of Success Rate is where i take issue
Simply playing games, isn’t a “success”
Would u say that Mitts & Thompson have been a “success” this year?
That’s a pretty easy no for me

Really?
On pace for 11pts
Had 31 last year
If he’s just a checking forward, then fine
But he is an absolute bust at 3C
So stop freaking playing him there & put him on the line with Larsson & Girgs
Or at least move him to the wing - jdfitz77
He's eclipsed 10 goals exactly once. Other seasons of 9,6,5, etc. The only difference is the assists. Is that on him, or his linemates?
15 of the 21 guys picked 10th overall beyond in the first round of the 2014 draft are playing meaningful roles on their teams and that was known as one of the weakest drafts in a long time.

I didn’t say they’ve played well
But saying they aren’t NHL wingers is going way too far
Obviously we need someone that can play 2C with them that can drive the play
If they were on the wing with Jack,
they’d be fine
This isn’t the same thing as with Sam last year
Pouliot & Griffith were not NHL wingers,
as evidenced by neither of them playing in the NHL this year

Okposo is not a 2nd liner, point blank. He's a borderline 3rd line PP specialist. Not really that, either since he sucks defensively. Sheary is a speedster. Decent player. Mittelstadt and these boys are playing 3rd line minutes.
I'm so, so tired of people saying "2nd line" as it pertains to Mittelstadt. He is playing 3rd line minutes with a 4th liner and a 2nd/3rd liner
