whoa!...nice work, goosie - Michael Pachla
I dont' know why the secondary scoring is such an issue all of a sudden. And I honestly don't know what the answer is. I think part of it has to do with injuries on the blueline to begin with, but that shouldn't be the issue now as they've all come back. |

Okposo and Sheary are trash, Thompson and Mittelstadt aren't ready to drive their own lines but could be productive if they played with actual Top 6 level talent, Sobotka, Elie, Girgensons, Pominville, Larsson are either 4th line players or don't belong in the league at all anymore. Erod is possibly a 3rd line guy or lumped together with the aforementioned. |

I think berglund is going to have a very successful second half and will be the unsung hero - Boss34
I still can't believe they were able to completely divest themselves of his deal. He must've done something pretty bad to not even put up a fight. GMs were pissed when the Kings tried to void Richards' contract, and he tried to cross an international border with illegal narcotics. I haven't heard word one about this one. |

Wonder how the D scoring was over the same period. |

Similar to Thompson, lethal shot but can he put together at the NHL level. - Pegullaville
maybe we'll find out next season...he's a right winger who may have been a good fit here in Buffalo if the sabres one-two punch down the middle was jack/ror...maybe that's why botts ultimately went with mitts, knowing that he'd need to replace ror...
just a thought...nothing more, nothing less

she considered anyone outside the top line as secondary scoring...if someone wants to do the research to refute her, they're more than welcome to

I actually just did a little more digging.
During the month of November, we scored 49 goals in 14 games. 18 of which were accounted for by Eichel, Skinner and Reinhart.
During the month of December, we scored 29 goals in 12 games. 18 of which were accounted for by Eichel, Skinner and Reinhart.
Yup, the 1st line has continued to produce where the rest of the team has not. - HonkFortheGoose

I think in the first half of the month, as a whole, they weren't getting to the dirty areas to score while the second half consisted more of missed opportunities and bad breaks...during the streak those opportunities were going in but the tables have turned....
I think they've been playing pretty well lately, the puck just isn't going in...hope they stay with it, and pick it up a notch...need bodies (yes, plural) in front of the net consistently

November - 8
December - 4
So that means they got 23 goals from the bottom 3 lines in November.
And 7 in December. Woof. |

For me, Sheary has been extremely unimpressive.

I agree. Things are frustrating right now, but as a whole they're not playing poorly. They just have 0 puck luck at the moment, whereas everything they seemed to touch turned to gold for the most part in November. |

he need to go, but it hurts bad.
what about this would you trade
Risto for Willie Nylander? - hehateme
Who'd have thought sitting out 25 games or whatever would be a bad thing? He's got 2 assists, both in the same game, 9 games ago and that's it. I wonder if they're female dogging about him as much as some here are female dogging about Sam(16 points last 12 games) or Risto(past few games, 10 points last 12 games) |

Its a good thing the Leafs made the wild card in 2016 and lost to the Caps and didn't lose an extra 4 games and solidified their d-corps |

That's good stuff. I was howling because everyone was bashing him because of his nonexistent 5v5 production. The pull-up thing wasn't great either. And then they went and picked him. |

My thoughts exactly.
Not good. At all.
But, they're not getting the doors blown off of them by their opponents either, so at some point the tides will probably change again. In a long season, much of this stuff is pretty cyclical.
I don't think that calling guys up from Rochester is necessarily the answer, since it's not like any of them down there are banging on the door in the first place. Olofsson started the season hot, but has been fairly cold himself lately. Nylander hasn't shown much. And well, we've seen enough of Bailey at this point to know what he'll bring.
I think they just need to keep riding this out and hope at some point it changes. Hopefully Housley eventually pushes the right buttons and things start to click a bit more again. |

it has for me. I thought at the beginning of the year that we would be fighting for the 7th or 8th playoff spot, but that damn 10 game win streak shot us up the standings. Now we are coming crashing back down to earth. its just painful to watch.... - hehateme
They're not playing all the much worse or anything either. It's just the way the league is, everyone is so close together. Even the "bad" teams like Arizona and Ottawa and St Louis can beat anyone. Arizona destroyed Tampa 7-1? I think? earlier in the year. |
