Love the hives!!!
Didn't know about the Beatles comment. - I Am The Breadman
Didn't Oasis also basically make the claim they were bigger than the Beatles...pretty sure it was one of them. |

Eh, I don't know the Hives personally so I don't really care how they feel about the Beatles, religion, politics, etc.
Depeche Mode was a good 80's electronic band. New Order was pretty good too, particularly Power, Corruption and Lies. - HawkintheD
New Order was the ashes of Joy Division, a band who had some real potential, New Order saw the techno 80s and went that way. Guess I can't blame them, it was either that, hair metal, underground poop or you had to be someone like R.E.M. who transcended it all. Can only be one of those type of bands. |

Not sure they said that exactly, because Oasis reveres the Beatles. But they said something similar, maybe they were the next Beatles or as good, something asinine.
Oasis had one legitimate song writer in that band, the Beatles had 3 of the greatest in that band. The salary cap broke up the Beatles. |

Missed the Canada game, how did Entwhistle look? Those in the know, does he project as a #2 or #3 center. Was really impressed with his game, plays all 200 feet and not afraid of the dirty areas. |

It wasn't exactly a comment, there is a thing on Utube with other artists talking about the Beatles, the Hives said nothing specific but it was clear they didn't like them.
Hey, it's all good...not everyone likes the same poop, but that band saved rock n roll from a life of (frank)ing Paul Anka and Dion. - kwolf68

Interpol often draws comparisons to Joy Division/Ian Curtis. I suppose I kind of get it but Paul Banks' voice is way more interesting than Curtis. Interpol's first two or three albums were great...pretty meh since Carlos D left. |

LOL, both Oasis brothers are total Richards. But Noel (guitar player, song writer) wrote some outstanding songs. I have all their records and if they reformed and played I'd go see it, for either a good show or to see Liam and Noel kill each other on stage.
They are actually a really good live band. Peep them on Youtube, the 96 gig in Manchester is really good, then the Familiar to Millions live CD is pretty good too. - kwolf68
Thumbs up on Oasis. Yeah, the Gallagher brothers were a bunch of jerks but great music. Had all their albums, too. They had a bunch of great songs that never made the airwaves, at least in the U.S.
Wonderwall came on the radio recently and my kids (8, 4, and 2) really liked it. IIRC, Liam wrote that song when his wife was depressed or something like that and it was somewhat of an ode to her. |

Yeah, think it was Liam and may have been tongue in cheek. Just remember some comment from them about the Beatles causing a stir. |

That era of synthpop, euro, or whatever it was called was pretty good. Lots of connections between the bands and some vitriol as well: Joy Division, Depeche Mode, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Yaz, Erasure, OMD, Blur, The Cure, The Smiths, etc.
The lead guy for Blur banded with a bunch of other artists to form that funky cartoon/halogram band the Gorillaz. They have some weird but somewhat cool concerts. Music is pretty good, too. |

LOL. Kinda. I have a hard time with that one. I admire John for a lot of things, but he had some real douchy ways too. The Beatles had an agreement, no babes in the studio. John broke that agreement. The way he treated Julian (who actually looks JUST LIKE HIM) was embarrassing. I love John for the muse of his ethos and his lyrics and of course his genius, but as a person he didn't always follow that path. Our musical heroes are not infallible I guess. I wished he had been better as a person, because he preached love and all that poop. Hey John? How about love your first born bro?
As far as Yoko, I think she does get a bit of a bad wrap. It wasn't her that broke the band up, they were drifting apart anyway. Paul was writing "Silly Love Songs" and John was questioning the existence of God. John was on an FBI watch list, Paul could have run for President and won. Just a real tough time.
I do wish that (frank)ing religious poop for brains wiener had not killed Lennon, maybe they get back together and do something almost as cool as Revolver.

Entwistle does not project to be a top 6 center. If he reaches his potential, he could be a solid 3C. At least a stellar 4C. |

NEVER put the Smiths or the Cure in with "synth pop". Johnny Marr of the Smith's is a guitar god. And the Cure? Robert's writing style, Simon's galloping base lines, both those bands may have been "jangly", but they were rock n (frank)ing roll.
Joy Division were great, but they were gone really quick because of Curtis' suicide.
Those other bands did nothing for me, although OMD's hit song If You Leave is one my wife and I (both children of the 80s) often play when we're poop faced. |

Sorry about that! Was never good at classifying music in to genres. Just remember my buddies and I playing all that music constantly.
If we're talking the Smiths, Morrissey was good as well as a solo act. |

AFL. Didn't mean to come off like an ass dude. I get pretty fired up about music. It's literally my drug. I apologize if I was caustic. |

Agreed, I hope. My hope is that with all his intangibles, size, coachable, accept/execute a roll, high motor, solid IQ, Entwhistle has a high floor. Meaning at worst a 4th line C. A Lowry (WPG) type?

Wasn't religion, it was the phonyness from Salinger's catcher in the rye. Before the Bears and Vikings game, I think. 2 or 3 other famous people died because of that book. 1 worked on the godfather. |

OK I'll take religion off the hook for that one. They still lead (by a wide margin) though. |

The Smith's This Charming Man is seriously good guitar playing. First time I heard it I was like, ahh this suck....second time, I was like I don't wanna hear this....third time I heard it, I was like play that again....the fourth time I was asking to borrow the cassette. Johnny Marr knows his way around a fretboard. |

Didn't take it as such so no worries! Just wanted to chime in with this music talk. Know what you mean about music being a drug. I was a DJ for almost 30 years but again was horrible at genre classification! |

Sounds like a good comparable. I could see Entwistle, Barratt, and Soderlund forming a 3rd line that can score, hit, and agitate. Just be a complete pain in the ass to play against in more ways than one. One can dream. |
