OH FFS Ek the guy wanted a break from everything. He had a short summer last year and needs to be top notch if he's gonna repeat. |

Does that really warrant an all-caps "TRADE!" notification when Tom Pyatt is the best player in the deal? - Wetbandit1

Just replace the All Star game with a Goon Derby. One goon from each team, elimination matches. Winner gets a million. Two million for anyone who cheapshots Tom Wilson. |

What shocks me about OV skipping the All Star game is that he gets an automatic one game suspension. Really? The ASG is just a dumb marketing ploy that no one takes seriously. Why should he be penalized at all for not wanting to go to it for the 15th time or however many he's gone to? Let someone else go for once. - Thecakeisalie
That's exactly why they get a suspension. It's about marketing the stars. If there are no stars there's less money. The NHL doesn't like that, so they have to have a punishment so that the players have some incentive to go, they also tried bribing them with the $1M for the winner of the tourney. |

Simple reason why he is doing this, he has the taste of the cup now. And he wants it again, by getting some rest before the playoff grind will help him. I don't blame him at all. He has done enough selling the game for the NHL. |

The Penguins are absolutely not looking at Jimmy Howard, don’t be so silly. Murray is back to beast mode and Casey D has been phenomenal. Zero chance the Pens waste cap space and assets of JH. |

Pretty much any team looking to add for a playoff push doesn't need a player like Howard. Barring unforeseen injury, they're already spending that kind of money on the goalie they have, and the goalie they have is probably better. |

Jimmy Howard is 34 years old and has 1 playoff series win which came in 2013. I bet playoff contenders are in a frenzy trying to trade for him. |

To infer that this has anything to do with the NHL not going to the Olympics is silly. Also, Players dont ask to go to the All Star game. A guy like Ovi who has probably already attended 10 of them should be aloud to decide if he wants to go or not. Unfortunately, every year a handful of deserving players are left off of All Star teams because of new divisional alignment and rules about every team having to be represented. This opens up the door or a guy like Pierre-Luc Dubois to get his shot an All Star game. Why not cover that angle of the story instead of criticizing a guy who has put more than his fair share of All Star games. That goes for everyone, not just Ek. Yes this hurts the Caps because Ovi will have to miss a game because of this, but I am sure he consulted the team before making the decision. |

I attended the 2015 AS in Columbus and I loved it! The best part -- going to one venue and seeing jerseys of literally every single team represented. Fans from one team on my left, another team on the right, above us, below us. Yet no one was nasty to others. The bar scene afterwards was a blast.
Fans from Philly were in front of us, told us a story of how their hotel reservation got messed up so they were going to drive home after the skills. Fans from NYI had a suite, could fit a couple more people, problem solved.
However, we DID buy tickets only for the skills competition, we had no interest in the game itself. |

The Allstar Game is a joke. 3 on 3. Every team, regardless of merit, has representation. Morgan Rielly has been the best D man in the league this year and he's not going. But Jimmy Howard is. Keith Yandle?
Karlsson? Price? Lundqvist? What year is this? 2012? |

The ASG has plenty of flaws but what's even worse is the hordes of people incessantly whining about how bad it is |

I wish the Kings would trade Carter and Quick too (among a few others from the 2012 core). Hagelin has been hurt and doing squat. But he will likely be cheap like a "conditional pick (5th rounder)". |
