Chia would probably be all over that, I could see Ferland giving him a chub
- Nucker101

That's my thought as well. "Here's my new Maroon!"

Truth is I really like Ferland. Dude has way better hands than people give him credit for.

But he's also had a bunch of head injuries and is a pending UFA that's going to want a big raise. Somebody is going to give him something stupid and I really don't want the Canes to be the ones that do it.

There are a special group of people out there who use stuff like that to defend the moves that Chia has done

And each and every one of them should be put down like rabid dogs.

What? You would make that trade?

Under these circumstances, yeah, Id try and get Simmonds for cheaper, but lets be honest, I see Yams as a bigger gamble than poolparty. He hasnt broke through and Simmonds even though he is struggling, he is producing more than anyone else in our top 9 other than the main 3 or 4. He is on the decline, but if we are in a win now mentality, he is better on our wing than yammo, in the here and now. IMO , obviously there are going to be differences of opinion. If theyre gonna do something that franks us. At least it brings us a short term value that may help now.

Would be nice, wouldn't it? But alas, the team is run by a bunch of (frank)nuts with no concept of what it takes to win hockey games.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a GM that’s proactive instead of reactive?

I might be wrong but for cap reasons alone that doesn’t work
- RatedR80

I think your right, this is speculation, but if theyre gonna screw us for the future, might as get a short term help.

What if the reason that Simmonds is struggling is because he might be on the decline....we already have Lucic and now you want to run the risk of adding Simmonds? I get why people would want him but we don’t need to be taking anymore risks with what little assets we have left in a deal

I could see Chia and Benning both getting into that bidding war. Maybe Tallon too.

But you're moving one of our only moveable assets with the value to bring us close to a top-6 forward for a guy that is no longer a top-6 forward, has been on a sharp decline and is quite consistently a drag on his team's 5-on-5 results (41.5, 41.8 and 43.2 GF% the past three years despite favourable deployment) AND is going into UFA likely looking for his last big contract when he likely deserves even less than his current one.

I understandfully, honestly if it was me at the helm, Id fire chia, play it out with this roster, buy out or ship out the dead weight at the end of the year, hope for something nice in the free agents market. Whilst I will admit his decline is probally age related, we all know current management, is probally going to move promise for right now just trying to salvage his job. If we make the playoffs there is a good chance we are stuck with chia, and on top of that it will be the teams future that is mortgaged for a wild card spot.

The whole thing that sucks is that at this point, they have to go to the white board, and start from scratch , wasting the elc years of Connors contract, and making it harder to build around him in his expensive years.

It took 4 years for Virtanin to just look like he belonged on nhl ice. Oilers got to be patient with Pulji.

The Blackhawks put Brandon Davidson on wavers today.....a LHD we are familiar with....makes 650k I believe....I’ll just let this sit here

Do you think a NHL prospect that was supposed to have a high ceiling, is developed improperly, and has his development stunted at the hands of mismanagement. Do you think they could sue?

The point being is why even trade for Manning and add 750K to our cap when Davidson was apparently up for grabs.....they both aren’t very good so I would have preferred the cheaper option as a temp band aid
