The trades will come soon. It takes two to make a deal. And either way I don't think Hak was the long term answer.

Not trying to defend Scott but I'd certainly have the players and Hextall ranked far above him in regards to why we're in this mess.

- hereticpride

Screw trades, I say let this team play together for the rest of the year as punishment.

Why is everyone so down?

If they lose tonight they probably just have to go 30-12 the rest of the way to make it in the playoffs.

- Glak18

Are they still trying to sell the leftover JVR santa sacks?

Yes. We know this. Hextall knows this. Fletcher knows this. Clearly Scott did not know this. He fired Hextall and hired Fletcher "to get things done now." franking dumdum

And either way I don't think Hak was the long term answer.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll never know.

He butted in when he had no place (other than he's the boss) doing so. Sometimes "because I'm the boss and I say so" is the wrong answer.

Oh well here we all thought it was hopeless.
That’s much better. Maybe someone should remind the players of this.😅

Nothing wrong with disagreeing..

This is a horrible mix of players that was only hidden by multiple players having career years last season.

I dont think Coots or Jake ever get close to those numbers again.

This team isnt overly any of the following; heavy, hard, i skilled, fast, cant rely on goaltending, doesnt hit, has scored 1 goal in three games. Has three players in Simmonds, Jake and JVR that are all sort of similar.

I dont in anyway disagree that mental issues are contributing to this but if you honestly think the roster is a good setup then i got nothing.

- opeth_pa

The biggest factors of why this team is so bad is because players such as Patrick, Gostisbehere and Provorov have struggled for the most part. Gostisbehere was a 60 point defenseman. Provorov led the NHL in goals for defenseman. Patrick was counted on to take on a big role. Veterans such as MacDonald, Simmonds have struggled. JVR has not acclimated. Lots of reasons.

This team has the talent to be a playoff team. They finished 3rd in the metro last season. What changed.

Here's one thing and another opinion I caught flak from the HB stats experts. The role that Filppula filled for the team. Took a lot of the heavy lifting and held his own. Allowed other players to play in different situations. They were right not to re-sign him but they couldn't find a replacement and relied on youth.

I think too much blame has been placed on Hextall. I think just like other situations, in time I'll be proven right about that and we'll be saying Hextall laid the foundation.

That sounds great on paper but as a paying fan we are going on year 4 right of building for the future..

When isnt fair for us to expect some consistent improvement? 5 years, 10 years, never?

- opeth_pa

I keep reading about this 4 year number. One of the reasons why I was so pissed about what they did to Hextall is it took him 2-3 years just to right the ship. To clear up the cap picture and build up the process base. To reverse the position of where Holmgren had the team. In reality, in terms of when we should be expecting something, this was really year one.

I dont disagree with the Flipp statement, he served a valuable role on this team.

As a fan what's a reasonable timeline for this future nirvana given that it's been what 7 years since they won a playoff series?

I just thought of that.

Do nothing, lose for top 3 and sell in Off season.

We get a better 2nd round pick too.

Yeah I think their in big trouble with this roster construction. The league is flying by them

No one was thinking Gordon was the answer either. Just that hak had to go.

- Just5

For sure Hak has to go...not because he’s a bad coach, but because they quit on him. They appear to be giving the same effort for Gordon. Call it leadership ? The core ? The untouchables? But everyone sees the the same BS. Who knows maybe a couple minor trades wakes thes (frank)s from their mid season slumber....but you have to try something.

I am not disagreeing with what you're saying, but one of the people that kept saying the team was a playoff team was Hextall.

It's very possible. I still can't get over the fact the Flyers need to win 71-72% of the games left to JUST make playoffs.

They may not be mathematically eliminated, but this team is officially out of the playoffs. Make all the trades they want, but only thing left to savage from this season is to build for next year and decide who to keep.

You could argue Hextall was a problem. He had more faith in the two dead bodies, who were confirmed to be Michael Neuvirth and Brian Elliott after autopsy over Petr Mrazek.

Hextall also fired Joe Mullen. I'm really surprised people aren't more pissed by this.

What would you expect him to say? I think this team has the talent to be a playoff team. Everyone thought they did before the season started. Who thought they'd be at the bottom of the NHL?

I'm just saying, by his own standards, he failed putting together a consistent playoff team.

Might as well take Neuvirth out now before he hurts himself.

I’m guessing Bill’s already got his “Canes blank Flyers” blog post written and ready to publish.
