He used to have that nice cross ice option from the top of the circle on PP. |

Is that the only reason? No. Is that a good reason? I'm sure. Not much has really changed aside from the coach. The PP struggles for whatever reason, and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. At this point, though, I think the issue is more mental.
Anyway, no excuse to fire a coach and then have the result be this. - feelingkettle
I don't think Mullen being let go has anything to do with it. The PP for most of the year has been slow and methodical with indecision. Tonight they make a fast passing play for a PP goal. On another they move the puck quickly, make the defense react, create a shooting lane with traffic and get a rebound goal. Mullen already had the foundation in place. It's just about execution and making smart plays instead of forcing plays. Not rocket science.

I agree, but you can also expect a GM to put together a team that improves from year to year at least a little. - feelingkettle
This year has gone sideways. Last year they improved 10 points and finished 3rd in the Metro.

Well at least they got their garbage time goals to prevent trades for yet another week. - hereticpride
I can’t imagine he’s not trying to get something done, but as some have pointed out it’s probably to late for this season.....I guess the bias for action will have to wait.

I'm not arguing the content of what you said. I agree. I'm just saying, you fire a guy that had the PP at the top of the league for a long time, you better make sure you're not making a backwards move. For whatever reason, this never happened under Mullen's watch. Regardless of the reasons we are where we are, Hextall made the wrong move with regard to the PP. |

The players are accountable for their play.
The coaches are accountable for how the players play under them.
The GM is accountable for putting together a good team with coaches that work for with the team.
I'm not saying it's all Hextall's fault, but he didn't hold up his end of his job when all things are considered. |

I'm at a loss. Too many 3rd and 4th liners. Too many limited wingers. No goalie play. Young d... I have no idea why this team sucks this bad. |

Soon we will find out how good this franchise is assembled, they physically have to get a couple 10 game win streaks just to get in the race to have a shot at the playoffs. Do they trade their poop for fresh poop or try to get something good for next year and the future. |

I hope that’s not the mantra they try and carry for yet another poop effort.

My opinion is that Hextall had the team moving in the right direction. The players have derailed this season. Holmgren and Scott panicked. I don't agree that he wasn't holding up his end. He was doing exactly what he said he was going to do when he was hired.

Hextall is FULLY RESPONSIBLE for this team on the ice and the position this franchise finds it self in today. He was fired with cause. Hopefully the new GM can build on some of what Hextall was trying to do. I guess we’ll see. |
