Yeah most of the time hasn't worked for the Rangers. Richards, Holik, Drury, Gomez, Redden etc. Panarin and Karlsson might be different. But the salary cap exists in order to create parity. I want players that will be cost effective for a handful of years. - tomburton99

Brad Richards before he got to the Rangers, in his time with Tampa and Dallas, scored at a clip of .915601 points per game. during his time with the Rangers, he scored at a rate of .719048. So that means he scored 20% less while being paid more. |

With the exception of Gomez those were horrible signings, and Richards was a cap casualty. Have to have a few vets playing well that have higher salaries combined with cheaper players on the rise, ie Howden, Pionk, etc. |

From a pure point perspective and from the fact that they bough out the last six years of his contract, it obviously didn't turn out as well as they hoped.
But, at the same time, he was a Ranger during their peak years and he played a big part in a couple of those runs, so from that perspective he was a pretty good Ranger.

Those Gomez signing was the best signing the Rangers ever made. They traded him for McDonagh, which allowed them to sign Gaborik, then they traded Gaborik for Brass, and Brass for Zibby, and McDonagh for Hajek, Howden, etc.
The Gomez signing player acquisition tree is fantastic.

Oh yeah, Gomez was bad, but we flipped him for Mac, so that was a successful sign and trade. |

Gomez had a 70 and 58 pt season, thats not a bad player. Contract wise yeah, wasn't all that great, but he wasn't a bad player |

Nylander actually screwed Edmonton over he pretty much had a deal with them and then I think his wife nixed it and he ended up in Washington If I remember correctly |
