Just good enough to lose out on a potential 2019 top draft pick. Brilliant. SOSDD |

Right now the Rangers are the 13th worst team in the league. The good news is that there are only seven points that separate them from the worst team in the league, so there isn't much distance between them and the bottom 5. One short losing streak, and they could be in the bottom five in the league lickity split.
Edit: By the same token, they are only 6 points out of a playoff spot. Parity rules. |

From an outsider's view: it just seems like the Rangers are in no-man lands right now and have been for a few years now. They are not going to contend with Pittsburgh/Washington for the top in the Metro but probably could contend for a wild card spot. However, you also run the risk of missing the playoffs and not getting a good draft pick. seems like a number of teams in the Metro are in this no mans land right now. Why not move some pieces, get into a better draft position and let PIT/WSH duke it out for another few years? When Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Backstrom, Letang, etc. retire, teams like the Rangers will be primed to take the Metro over?

That seems to be the plan since trading Step, Mcd, Miller, Nash, etc. Drafting requires skill and lot of luck. See Ovie, Malkin, Crosby etc. They are no brainers as picks, but you gotta get lucky to win that ping pong ball and not have Nail Yakupov be the top pick that year |

Or not draft Hugh Jessiman, Bobby Sanguinetti and Dylan Mcilrath. Those 3 picks could have altered the direction of the organization. |

don't forget the one time we had possibly a sure-fire pick, he died. we just don't have the best of luck. No matter where we fall, we're not lucking out and getting first overall. But sure would be nice to draft top 3. |

Gomez had a 70 and 58 pt season, thats not a bad player. Contract wise yeah, wasn't all that great, but he wasn't a bad player - mdw7413
Better than Chris Kreider lol. 53 points and a bunch of 40+ point season's whoohoo |

Well yeah. That is why I didn't mention it. Because the odds of that happening have to be in the millions. Of course it would happen to the Rangers. |

That's not going to happen. You have to figure that Crosby is the Pittsburgh Penguins. A stealth draft pick, free agent signing or trade would make that a dangerous 1,2 punch down the middle. Sorry but I wouldn't trust Andersson to go against any old or new school elite player's. Kutz from Washington will be amazing now and in 5-6 years.
I will never be a fan of "we will be awesome and ready to contend in 4-5 years " talk. It is a narrative that won't apply to the Rangers until we have a prospect who can hit the ice and look like Pettersson. Hoping that Chytil can become elite in 2-3 years is nothing short of pillow talk.
Best thing to do is take advantage of Hayes and Zib as the center punch. |

Sorry to break the news but Kreids multiple 20-21 goal and 40+ season's is what he's viewed.
Face it bro, Kreider doesn't hold his own vs guy's like Filip Forsberg or Mark Stone (the none elites but really good top 6 player's). Probably why he'll never wear a team US A jersey or play in a all-star game. Don't @ me. |

Scott Gomez was making over 7 million a year when the salary cap was 50 million
Chris Kreider has been making 4.6 million with the cap inching closer to 80 million
I think we are all smarter than this conversation |

Finally someone sees my side on this!! Kreider isn't getting paid to be a first line star, he is making 2nd / almost border 3rd line money with where the cap is. Why people bashing on his production is just dumb imo.
Doesn't hurt though he is on pace for 1st line number goals this year though |
