Agreed. Not saying the deal is lopsided, but I think it greatly benefits Toronto more than Vancouver. I think a solo Edler deal would bring a return that better caters to the plan going forward

Also, for what its worth on Goldobin, loudly proclaiming you scratched a young player and dedicated a whole practice for him to learn is hardly selling high on the kid

- WhiteLie

Ok, but how/what? Edler is a UFA and Kappanen is a good very young forward that fits top 6 and has showed great abilities playing with skilled players.

I also don't understand... its lopsided in TO's favour but at the same time Goldy's value is low?

I like Kapanen a lot so I would do that, assuming Edler's trade value is a late 1st + random prospect. Kapanen is the type of player you hope to draft with that late 1st anyway.

Travis Green would probably hate that trade though, he's been using Edler as a workhorse #1 dman ever since he came back from injury, he's averaged like 24.5 minutes a game in December.

Trade would hurt the Canucks this year for sure, but pay off in the long run.

i've been waiting

- kicksave856

Dear Thatch, I wrote you, but you still ain't callin'
I left my cell, my pager and my home phone at the bottom
I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not've got 'em
There probably was a problem at the post office or somethin'
Sometimes I scribble addresses too sloppy when I jot 'em
But anyways, (frank) it, what's been up, man? How's your father?
My girlfriend's pregnant too, I'm 'bout to be a father
If I have a daughter, guess what I'ma call her?
I'ma name her Bonnie
I read about your Uncle Ronnie too, I'm sorry
I had a friend kill himself over some female dog who didn't want him
I know you probably hear this every day, but I'm your biggest fan
I even got the underground poop that you did with Com's
I got a room full of your posters and your pictures, man
I like the poop you did with BC too, that poop was phat
Anyways, I hope you get this, man, hit me back
Just to chat, truly yours, your biggest fan, this is Kick

You could get two Kappys and a second for Edler. Toronto can't afford Kappy next year why not wait.

Until Edler agrees to waive and Canucks agree to part ways I think it is nothing more than water cooler talk.

- VANTEL

You cannot get 2 players like Kappy and a 2nd for Edler... a UFA. Wow.

Water cooler talk is what this place survives on.

100%

Edler likes it here. Travis likes Edler . Jim likes Edler. Fracesco likes Edler. I don't see Edler going anywhere.

If they intend to keep him, don't you think they would have least talked to his agent by now. Edler says they keep waiting but nothing at all from Jim.

You don't have to dislike a player to trade him.

I think Kapanen is a good player, but Toronto loses leverage as soon as everyone sees the ink dry on Matthews and Marner's new deals.

And I didn't say the deal was lopsided, only saying that the deal really does some favours for the Leafs. In a separate comment, I merely noted that Goldobin's value isn't at its highest right now. Personally I'd rather acquire picks or non-NHL prospects for Edler and see if Goldobin can commit to the defensive side of things

No hurry to sign him today. A deal may come across the table that no one can refuse including Edler. Some team could offer him a bundle.

Sorry, misread the first sentence probably because it was followed with "greatly benefits Toronto".

Hard to acquire picks for Edler when so many teams are up against the cap. Thats why I'm looking at quality rookies and young players.

Who said sign him today? I was talking about dialog. There has been none. No indication they have any interest in signing what so ever. I know you implied some stuff based on popularity....

Thanks Carol, and happy new year!

With the Goldobin talk, I was similarly reminded of Baertschi. It doesn't feel like too long ago that the same criticisms Goldobin is facing (soft, poor defense, and benefiting from a good young center) were being said of Sven. Here's to hoping Goldobin figures it out as well, as his production ceiling seems to be considerably higher than Baertschi's

- WhiteLie

I dont think Goblins ceiling is higher offensively and Bae was never as weak defensively. Disagree aLl around

Fair point, though Edler's salary isn't much offset much by rookie-capped deals

Like Nucker said and I agree, you hope to pull a player like Kappy with a late 1st or early 2nd any draft. Its a good grab for the Canucks for sure. Less risk as well.

Goldobin needs 12 points in Vancouver's final 39 games to tie Baertschi's career high. I don't think that'll be too difficult

Don't disagree he was always better defensively, just saying it was also questioned

My power just came on.

Pom pom waivers tend to overvalue players.

Leaf players should be valued at 50 percent.
