Thanks for the Blog Todd. Any thoughts who might be available for a goaltending upgrade ? Getting another aging goalie who's slowing down in a league that's getting quicker every year hasn't worked... so, anyone out there under 30 ? |

If the Flames actually acquired a legit goalie they would be dangerous in the playoffs |

It is so frustrating watching Mike Smith play, usually when a team scores 4 goals you think that they would've won the game. I'm not sure what Gillies #'s are like in the AHL this year but I think he should've started against Boston. I bet he would've had a good enough game to get the Flames atleast a point. Starting Mike Smith in net is like letting a sheep out in a pack of wolfs. |

I think Rittich has the chance to be a solid goaltender. The jeopardy is more with Smith who looks helpless 3 out of every 4 games he plays. |

Best chances of a backup for me come with one of the isles goalies (Greiss/Lehner) or Howard.
Reaaaal shallow market this year with others being run out of the league (Mason, Lehtonen, etc.) |

Flames really struggle with penalty kills that are active and aggressive. The drop pass is beatable, and they need to change tactic in those situations.
Dump and chase, fewer passes in zone, more shots - back the damn d off and you can open up lanes, but so long as they play that perimeter offense against these aggressive pk's, they should expect some donuts on the board. |

That is good news, what do you guys think it would cost to get Jimmy Howard from Detroit? Another thing to is would the Flames have to buy out Smith the rest of the year or could they send him to the AHL? Can you imagine if Mike Smith had average goaltending this season, the Flames would be right up with Tampa in the standings. |

Smith has been bad but you guys caught a break with big save Dave.....not too many saw this coming from him to start the season.....get a solid back up and hope Dave doesn’t revert to last season and you guys should make a deep run this year

1st is too much for a rental. We can't keep trading those 1st away. Any deal for Howard would have to have Smith going back the other way. Maybe Smith, Philips and a 2nd? Doesn't have to be Philips could replace with another prospect not named Valimaki or Dube. |

Everyone should go vote for Gio as the last man in for the all star game. You're allowed 10 votes per day. NHL.com
Let's get Gio into the game, he deserves to be there. |

Friedman says Detroit are looking for a 1st round pick.
We either try to let Gilles go at a few starts if Riitch is out for any while or we give up some significant futures to get a backup that shouldnt cost anywhere near that in the off season. How do you fit it in the cap & what are you prepared to give Ottawa for Anderson or Edmonton for Talbot. Chances are the ask will be Kyllington as the main piece going back. |

Probably Talbot! He's been getting beat up in Edmonton by fans & media & is a UFA. Still, they hate us so it would have to be an overpay. I would be all over getting him of they were reasonable & took Czarnick & a 3rd or something like that, probably need to swing Smith in there but we would have to take some cap from them, Kassian? I dont know. Would rather just sign him as a 1B this summer for fckall assets but cap space. |

Love him there, but also more than ok with giving a few days off to our 35 year old captain
Send Hathaway and have him spear McDavid right at the end of the game... |
