If you DO go for Duchene. 2 things need to happen.
1. He comes in on a sign-and-trade
2. You do not lose Brock under any circumstances. Like him or not, he's been very good in his own end.

How about you just sign him after July 1st when he's a free agent and not lose any assets

Because, just my opinion, Columbus would have the most leverage in that dept(assuming they most likely won't keep Panarin).

I don't think after they lose Panarin they have a better chance then the Isles. If the Islanders make the PO's and the Young Guns get some experience I'm thinking Duchene would be adding to the team and not just replacing someone as in Columbus.

Also, if Panarin gets traded( don't think he will be if in PO pic ), or leaves( more likely), The BJ's need to make a decision on Bob whether to keep him or not. Honestly Gaines, The BJ's are looking like a team moving into transition imho. But thats just my opinion and I'm always wrong so take it for what it's worth.

They'd be better off trying to get Schenn out of St. Louis. Another year on his deal, Blues are cap-strapped, and they don't have to pay top dollar for a UFA who's coming off a monster season. Signing the marquee free agent on the open market rarely works out for the team, because no matter what you are overpaying.

It would be terrible asset management to trade assets for Duchene and then go and give him a ton of money. Taking a stab at him as a UFA is one thing, but trading for him and then having him absolutely test free agency and potentially leave is another.

Much more value in Schenn.

I think I would go for Duchene first. Better offensive numbers and much better at the FO dot which the Isles could really use. Schenn isn’t bad but you need to trade for him, so give up assets and he has only 1 year left so no gaurentee he stays. I think Lou will be all over Duchene in the off season and maybe before if the price from Ottawa is realistic but we will have to wait and see on that.
Barzal, Duchene, Nelson and CC down the middle looks pretty good moving forward.

Again Schenn isn’t bad but I think Duchene fits as far as the Islanders need at 2C.
I think Schenn and Nelson are very similar imho. Now that being said if you lose Nelson then Schenn is a good short term fix.

Surprised at these comments so far honestly. As a diehard Isles fan I'll say this: Panarin will be a Ranger or an Islander after this season with a long term contract. We will all cringe every time he touches the puck if he is a member of our cross town Rivals no??? Unfortunately JT sent the organization back ten years to put the team in this predicament. (Still has to be missing public information on that poopshow, I'm not buying his pjs story) Barzi can dangle and whoa a crowd, his transpired baseball skills are epic on top but he'll never be John. Fact, fact, and Matt no disrespect perhaps motivation to prove me wrong huh kid? Yout first hat trick better then any I've seen to date last year. Sooooo back on subject now Isles nation are you ready to hit Tavares with that warm welcome hes asked for 😉?? Glad the games been changed to the band aided Coliseum instead of the Brooklyn Sewer. Its basic to me Islanders need Panarin then we need to pry the Russian out of St Louis to lift the cup again. Give the whole entire farm to make that happen along with every dollar they both demand Lou. Pleaseeeeeee Lou Pleaseeeeeeeee. I haven't been happy since Ryan Smith. Go out and get Tarasenko before anyone he is truly the only guy that could replace JT. We fans only got lucky once in the past few years you all remember??? Yeahhhh point per game Vanek turned down 80 million with Tavares as a linemate to go where his wife made him go. I personally thank you Vanek oh and I get it i truly do. "The power of the P" is a remarkable phenomena for myself also. Playing footsie in Minnesota with a beautiful specimen is certainly worth that coin. Once again that predicament brings us to Dooouchee Shameee. That greedy Alpha in a Islanders sweater is conflict to Brock. They'll both be cheating ice time to one up the other. Barzal then suffers and wont be able to prove me wrong. Both our current Centers step aside for Panarin. PS Casey "I luuuuuuv you" so that covers that line too lol. So here is my bid. Send SheSung, poop Ass Bailey, Oliver Twist, Quenneville, and a future first rounder for Tarasenko and stud Dman Alex pa pa pa you know who. Then Dal Colddd, Clutter, a second rounder, 3rd round conditional, and Dobbson paired with Sodderstrom and Greiss forrrrrr Panarin, his agent being banned from the league, and the giant green giant himself BoBroooooooo knowing first and foremost they are all here to stay!!! Wheeeattttt dogggggg its Fun to dream like this outloud. If this was milllburrrrrrrry the islanders for years to come or the X blizzard as our GM the fanbase gets slapped with dumping Eberle losing almost every day. Praying Lou makes a splash. Again Pleaseeeeeeeee get a 91 back on the ice. I've been watching this team lose ever since Tucker took out Peca, then every year Afterrrrrr!!!

sweet (frank)ing christ man. what in the actual (frank) is this? I actually stopped reading this about 3 sentences in...and then came back to read the whole thing simply for the entertainment value.

JT really set us back 10 years lemme tell ya. We're a better team then we were last year. So your logic is spot on lemme tell ya.

I'll admit certainly a rant. However every single person reading knows it's the truth. The 10 years back was definitely an opinion. However if the return we should have gotten was contemplated on a forum I'd love to see your responses. He did us dirtyyyyyyy, or Garth had it up his sleeve. That guy bleed blue and orange why leave in dramatic fashion instead of being the professional he always was? JT is the best player we'll ever have. To watch his prime dwindle away in an opponent's sweater definitely sent the organization back 10 years. Its Bull that was coordinated and as fans we get the back end. Hes an opponent and knew he would be. Management got fooled we pay the price. Duchanne Panarin chumps, compared to the guy that got 29 in the twine already folks. Hope the ADD allows the ones who said I talk too much to have an answer instead of a personal attack I'm waiting!!!!
