He just seems miserable and his play has suffered as a result. I would have thought he would have been one of the players revitalized with the coaching change but evidently not.

Yea almost like he is just waiting to leave...its sad his tenure is going to end like this

That is almsot impossible when Smith has 15 team NTC, plus Staal and Shattenkrik having NMC.
- tomburton99

I know, it was more Ruff. Smith we are stuck with no matter what. I wish he would have stunk in that Montreal series, he got that contract from that playoff run with Skjei.

Shatty has a modified NTC where he provides a list of 10 teams he can refuse to be traded to. Rangers cap situation is fine; if someone in Hartford is deserving, Smith can go down to the AHL in favor of someone else.

Ruff should be the 1st one out the door. Since he has taken over defense its the worst I've seen in over a decade
- mdw7413

Ruff is like a termite...he would survive an apocalypse at this point. He is with the Rangers for eternity

Not what I meant Glen, you haven't been around in while. If this is the worst team the Rangers can dress, keep it likes. I'm all in on being awful this year and next year in order really re-stock this prospect system.

I just don't want the team to be horrible. If they lose but play hard and the games are close, so be it. But when it becomes this kind of hockey where they are getting dominated every minute, no way its good for the young players.

Definitely, he's been one of my favorite Rangers since he first signed. But all good things must come to an end, they say.

I was looking at his numbers yesterday and he's averaged 56 points over the last five full seasons; there was no way to anticipate this drop-off in production. He's on just a 40-point pace this year.

I don't know if they have to tank next year too, though I suppose aside from hindering the development of the kids playing in the NHL now, losing through 2020 wouldn't be the worst thing. I do believe the Rangers management thinks they can be good next year with the right additions between now and then. I'm not sure about that myself watching these guys play right now.

You do realize a losing culture and getting dominated is going to do the exact opposite of what you want. All these young guys are going to just go through the motions and its going to be years of garbage. When you have a bunch of young impressionable players you have to have a team that believes in itself and that they are just around the corner from turning it around, if not, you could have every pick from now till 2030 and the team will still be garbage

10 years at a shot finally finding a player to build around, other than a goalie. Yeah I'll take my chances.

No they weren't the first part of the post lockout they were stuck right in the middle with of five seasons of 80 plus points. Then they were really garbage.

I share that feeling, though I also think about the elite players found outside the top 3 or 5 picks in the draft and wonder when the Rangers will stumble into that guy instead of drafting and developing just pretty good players with their 1st round picks.

Scheifele, Getzlaf, Kopitar, to name a few, versus JT Miller, Kreider, Skjei, etc.

Hopefully Kravtsov and/or Chytil develops into that type of elite player we need. Along with whoever we draft this year.

By your logic, wouldn’t being stuck in the middle around an 80pt team be the worst case scenario?
No playoffs and middling picks
