Not sure I like the idea of a MacKinnon-Hughes 1-2 or having Krappo Kakka lining up beside Rantanen for the next 10 years.

c'mon...

think of the offer sheet opportunities...

all of the attention will turn from Toronto to Colorado

I think you forgot about Edmonton who with one of the best players in the league and about 8 first overall pick in the last decade still manage to not get into the playoffs, let alone become a serious contender
- plantheparade

exactly... and Chiarelli is just continuing the insanity..

if the Leafs and Leaf fans hadn't had to experience Ballard's absolute gong-show for decades... I might even feel sorry for them (I don't).

I do feel badly for McDavid though.

Leafs just need to play their game, take it one shift at a time.

Nashville is a good team - they have come here to get the two points.

- Atomic Wedgie

As long as the Leafs are able to put the puck on net, good things happen. Get traffic in front of the net and get those dirty goals. Play a full 60 minutes, give a full 110% effort

The Sens are in last place.

And they don't have their own first round picks.

I feel like it's important to remind everyone of how awesome this is.

- Scabeh

You did the right thing.

I wonder if Spatso is going to advise the Avs board of which player they should worry about not having taken.

I'm sorry, but Bob Cole commenting was horrible that last game.
No offense to him, but it was time he retired..
It was clearly showing that he was missing a lot of the information and he was naming players differently, just didn't understand what was going on at all.
I understand the guy is some sort of a legend, but as a relative outsider, I can understand he retired. Still respect to him and his career.

- plantheparade

yup he doesn't have many games left. time to hang them up after 50 years.

They need to keep their feet moving.

Generate some chances, and hope we get the lucky bounces.

Exactly. Can't give the Preds too much time and space, they're a good team and find ways to win games.

Shanny checks out.

Howe meets the requirements if you include his WHL seasons.

True Wedgie story:

Once upon a time, I entered a hockey pool at a large company (I wasn't an employee, but I was allowed to enter, as I had a few buddies there).

This was a while ago - I think there were 26 teams in the NHL at the time.

The pool was interesting: you had to take (iirc) 15 forwards, 8 defencemen, 2 goalies...and one goon. And you could only take one player from each NHL team.

Forwards and D: 1 point for every point.

Goalies: 2 pts for a win, and maybe 5 points for a shutout? Doesn't matter.

And the goon: 1 point for each point, and 1 point for every 10 pts in penalty minutes.

There were probably over 100 entries. Most people took Domi or Probert or some other goon as their goon.

But there were about 5 of us who figured out a better way, and took Shanny or Nolan.

Well, about 3 weeks in, the others who had donated their $50 realized that they had been stupid - they had no hope of winning. People started complaining via emails - but since I wasn't at at the company, I couldn't tell them to go eff themselves, not my fault they didn't figure it out.

The guy running it eventually let a select few people change - and I positively lost my poop. It was only later that they explained to me that the people who got to change were still going to come in dead last.

I ended up winning the pool, and it paid for my patio furniture.

Thank you, Shanny.

Are you telling me there was a "goon" spot, but you could just take any player in that spot?

Like you could have taken (frank)ing Brett Hull... who cares if he doesn't take penalties?

that being said - and I agree that its time for retirement - he's still more engaging that Hughson has EVER been.

I've always known that Cole is a Habs fan... but I don't come away from listening to a game he's calling thinking that there's only one team that he's watching.

That's my issue with Hughson (and Simpson)... I get the impression, and have done for a long time, they look for teams they don't like to fail, and wait for any opportunity to stress the negative narrative.

I draw comparisons between Hughson and Jack Edwards, who covers the Bruins. A Bruin player gets in a fight, gets hit five times, lands one and you'd think hearing Edwards call it that it was a decisive victory for the Bruin.
