This may be true as I've read that there is a difference in wages between refs due to consistency and experience, but just how far does this go? What if what is currently happening is something that all refs are allowing? How do you go from there?

One way we could find out is by crossreferencing all of the games with a similar controversial issue with the ref involved in that game.

Honestly not trying to start something here, and I could be seeing it wrong, but does McDavid not initiate the contact and then elbow/forearm Lindholm in the face right before the hit? Knocked his helmet back? Then Lindholm goes to push him back but McDavid turns to the puck and gets it in the numbers.

I dunno, I could see the refs watching that in the moment as a battle for the puck that McDavid initiated rather than a boarding call or whatever. Just on this play specifically, not like the Doughty elbow, which was 100% an elbow.
