He fills the role with the Flyers so Kids can stay in Lehigh. PLAYOFF time is key. - dragonoffrost
Lol he stinks, didn't even tear up NCAA. He can lose some games for us so I guess i'm all for it. Fits in with our non scoring 10 other forwards. |

Jordan Schmaltz (STL) on waivers today. He's 25 and a right handed shot. I'd probably waive Folin and pick him up. - Doctor DOOM
Pick him up PLEASE!

Problem with trading Voracek is that he's 2nd in points on the team.
Per Bill - Jakub Voracek (10 goals, 22 assists, 32 points, -17)
Of course that -17 is scary, we all realize his defensive flaws. That said I wouldn't be adverse to trading him - just be aware that we'd need something in return to help replace those lost points. - FlyersGrace
His production id definitely important to this team right now (since no one except him and Roo is producing), however, how many of his - 17 were a GWGs for the opposition.
With the team overall production as it is now, individual achievements do not matter.

Guy has never torn up the AHL or put up points in the NHL, why would he be better than our options already with the phantoms? - ClaudeFather

No worries I was thinking the same thing when I saw Schmaltz waived. I was trying to think of when he ended up in STL though.

A good one! Just in case anyone was confused...Schmaltz is a defenseman. Right handed, former first round draft pick, and not yet reached his prime.

Fletcher only has 6 healthy dmen on the roster, but yet he still refuses to bring up Myers or Friedman, both of whom are having great seasons in the AHL and could easily slot in on the 3rd period with Hagg.
I guess he's worried they might make mistakes that will affect the team's drive for the playoffs. |

Here is who I think the Flyers should be shopping between now and the deadline and also what I think they can reasonably expect to get for them:
Simmonds
At best if you add in one of their two 3rds, I think they can get a late first from a contender along with a conditional 3rd in 2020 if the acquiring team re-signs him and/or goes to the finals.
Raffl
Can possibly get you a late 3rd from a contender who is banged up on the wing. However a 4th is more likely
Weal
Can maybe get you a 6th from a team looking to add offensive depth. Could perhaps get you a 5th if they add in one of their 7ths
Folin
Can maybe get you a 6th from a team a looking to add defensive depth, though a 7th is more likely.
AMac
I just don't see anyone going for him right now considering the way he's been getting dinged up and with one more year at a 5 million cap and 5.75 million in actual salary. Maybe if they retain half, they can get a 4th, but that's about the best they can expect. Probably better off to just keep him for now and revisit moving him after the season.
Weise
Maybe, if they retain half, they can get "future considerations" ie someone taking him off their hands, for good old Horseface. I wouldn't hold your breath though.
And there you have it. Personally, I wouldn't be shopping Gudas as he's currently their only rh Dman. Lets see what Myers can do next year and you can revisit moving Gudas at next year's deadline, or if they are a playoff team and he's playing well, you just keep him at that point. Sometimes you're just going to lose guys in FA for nothing, it's not the end of the world. Finally, when it comes to the 2 vet goalies, forget it, no one is giving up anything for either of them at this point. That ship has sailed. - BiggE
Sorry to be critical. When exactly are you thinking we'd trade these guys? If ASAP, who's going to play? I assume you mean one or two of the list above. But, they've pretty much exhausted the farm team of guys ready to jump to the NHL. Other guys just aren't ready. And, trading for anything lower than a 4th is silly... It's just a cap dump, which can be fine in the right situation. But, there are not too many 5th+ playing in the NHL. Sure there is the odd star from the 7th round, but its a real crap-shoot. Maybe some mid range picks would be nice, but I'd rather trade a guy like Weal for another guy like Weal (aka same level, but different skill set - like bigger or hits more). If I were GM, I'd be looking for younger player with potential (where it's questionable whether he'd make it - ie. a team willing to let him go for a new building)
My thoughts to fix the team - not this year, but traget for next... 1) Defense; A lot of problem's I see or everyone writes about is due to the youth of our defense. Rookies/young guys will make mistakes. They need to learn. I see the Flyers needing, one very good, older, reliable defenseman. He doesn't need to be offensive, better if he was a stay at home type. The young defenseman need a role-model and AMAC is not cutting it. 2) Goalie; yadda, yadda, yadda... We have Hart, but need to wait until he is seasoned. 3) Offensive; The top 9 can score points. Sure we can mix and match - maybe trade to upgrade / bring up someone from the farm / draft pick (please #1 draft pick). I see a big problem is our fourth line seems like a group of guys who couldn't cut it in the top 9. We need to build a line 4, with defensive, quick guys who like to hit. An energy line... They don't have that. I see the right people being the core of the PK.

The argument changes based on how the current team is doing.
Right now, since the team is doing poorly, the company line is "It would be foolish to bring them up now. The team is a dumpster fire and it is a poor environment."
When the team is playing well, it shifts to "The team is winning and doing great. Can't make any roster changes now. Don't want to ruin the team chemistry."

Why a push to move Raffl? Solid depth player with a great cap hit.

I think it's more of they are playing well in the A, let them be. This season is not going to be saved. Call them up later in the year for them to see what it takes for the jump to the NHL. This way they can go into the offseason knowing what needs to be done to be successful at the next level. |

Because they are ready to take the next step in their development, and because they are likely better than veterans currently on the roster who have no future here. The same reason Lindblom was promoted last year when he was 21 years old with 54 AHL GP, and Sanheim was promoted at the start of 17-18 aged 21 with 81 AHL GP.
Friedman is 23 with 113 AHL GP.
Myers is 21 with 98 AHL GP.
NAK is 22 with 184 AHL GP. |

40 games would give them twice as much development time.
In 17-18 we constantly heard how tough it was to break in two defensive prospects with no NHL experience on a playoff-bound team. That's a problem you can avoid with Myers and/or Friedman by getting them NHL experience in a season where making the playoffs is already out of the question. |
