I think that's the best option. Call them up with 15-20 games left as a preview for next year. - ClaudeFather
Hopefully the team at some point stabilizes and improves then it would be a better situation to call a player up.

It's utterly farcical to think calling up a 20 year old goalie with 17 AHL GP is OK, but calling up a dman with a lot of AHL experience to play on the third pairing is somehow going to be bad for them. |

Because they are ready to take the next step in their development, and because they are likely better than veterans currently on the roster who have no future here. The same reason Lindblom was promoted last year when he was 21 years old with 54 AHL GP, and Sanheim was promoted at the start of 17-18 aged 21 with 81 AHL GP.
Friedman is 23 with 113 AHL GP.
Myers is 21 with 98 AHL GP.
NAK is 22 with 184 AHL GP. - Feanor
Sanheim struggled for large parts of the season. Lindblom is struggling now. Players better than they are spent more time in the AHL. The current team environment is not good for young players to break in on. Much better to hope the team gets better later in the season then possibly call them up. They won't have their development hurt with a little "over cooking".

Like who?
If the current team environment is so bad you should be demanding that Hart be sent down immediately. But that would require you to stop automatically agreeing with whatever management is currently doing, no matter what it is. |

Actually most people are posting that they hope Hart gets sent back down. They were forced to call Hart up.

Now they weren't. They could have kept Lyon up. Fletcher sent him down after the Vancouver game, and called Hart up instead.
It's hilarious how it doesn't even occur to you that calling up good young players is a way for the team to get better. You really don't have to pin your hopes on mediocre vets like Weise, Folin and MacDonald. |

Duncan Keith played 154 AHL games. I do want them to send Hart back down as soon as possible and I know that they wouldn't have called him up unless they were forced to.
As someone who criticizes just about every move the GM or coach makes if it doesn't fit your opinion and has zero open mindedness, you don't have any standing to criticize how I form my opinions.

What's hilarious is that you think I don't understand that better players can make the team better. What's also hilarious is that you don't understand that I look at all the factors and put what I think is best for the player first at the time. There are no players that are going to change the fact that this team is not making the playoffs this season. |

FWIW
Here is who I think the Flyers should be shopping between now and the deadline and also what I think they can reasonably expect to get for them:
Simmonds
At best if you add in one of their two 3rds, I think they can get a late first from a contender along with a conditional 3rd in 2020 if the acquiring team re-signs him and/or goes to the finals.
Raffl
Can possibly get you a late 3rd from a contender who is banged up on the wing. However a 4th is more likely
Weal
Can maybe get you a 6th from a team looking to add offensive depth. Could perhaps get you a 5th if they add in one of their 7ths
Folin
Can maybe get you a 6th from a team a looking to add defensive depth, though a 7th is more likely.
AMac
I just don't see anyone going for him right now considering the way he's been getting dinged up and with one more year at a 5 million cap and 5.75 million in actual salary. Maybe if they retain half, they can get a 4th, but that's about the best they can expect. Probably better off to just keep him for now and revisit moving him after the season.
Weise
Maybe, if they retain half, they can get "future considerations" ie someone taking him off their hands, for good old Horseface. I wouldn't hold your breath though.
And there you have it. Personally, I wouldn't be shopping Gudas as he's currently their only rh Dman. Lets see what Myers can do next year and you can revisit moving Gudas at next year's deadline, or if they are a playoff team and he's playing well, you just keep him at that point. Sometimes you're just going to lose guys in FA for nothing, it's not the end of the world. Finally, when it comes to the 2 vet goalies, forget it, no one is giving up anything for either of them at this point. That ship has sailed. - BiggE
I wouldn't trade Gudas for the sake of moving him but Fletcher should be shopping him IMO. It's worth seeing the price some team's are willing to pay. I'd want at least a 2nd round pick and would otherwise keep him.

I think any move could involve 3 teams, load up picks and then flip multiple picks/prospects and a roster player for a player that helps the fit on this roster. |

So Lyon wasn't healthy enough to play for the Flyers on 12/18, and yet he played for the Phantoms on 12/19. |

AHL games played alone should be the one determining factor on whether to move somebody up. The Flyers management obviously sees something in their game that needs to be improved. Or, there are no spots for them - they can't move the current veteran players. And, why? they would be moved into a log-jam. They are getting plenty of ice time in the AHL, and would see much less if they moved up. Another and why... At this rate the team is not going to the playoffs. So, if they came up and played fantastic... Whats the best we could hope for, a first round loss? I'd rather a better shot at a higher draft pick - give the kids more good experience - shed the veterans without hurting the cap

The days of the goons is gone (for the most part). However, teams still need grit (not gritty). This team is a soft, losing Gudas would only make that worse. |

Fletcher only has 6 healthy dmen on the roster, but yet he still refuses to bring up Myers or Friedman, both of whom are having great seasons in the AHL and could easily slot in on the 3rd period with Hagg.
I guess he's worried they might make mistakes that will affect the team's drive for the playoffs. - Feanor
No he is likely thinking about the future with the expansion draft. We already have a bunch of players that will likely need to be exposed. If they are brought up now they can be expansion eligible for 20-21 |

Every player is different. Provorov came right into the league. - MJL
Yes, every player is different. Very few 21 year old dmen have ever up ES points in the AHL the way Myers is doing. He's up there with what Justin Schultz, OEL, Montour, Carlson and Barrie did.

Being promoted from the AHL to the NHL has no bearing whatsoever on the expansion draft unless the player is aged under 20.
Myers, Friedman, NAK and Vorobyev will all be eligible for the 2021 ED no matter what Fletcher does. |
