AHL games played alone should be the one determining factor on whether to move somebody up. The Flyers management obviously sees something in their game that needs to be improved. Or, there are no spots for them - they can't move the current veteran players. And, why? they would be moved into a log-jam. They are getting plenty of ice time in the AHL, and would see much less if they moved up. Another and why... At this rate the team is not going to the playoffs. So, if they came up and played fantastic... Whats the best we could hope for, a first round loss? I'd rather a better shot at a higher draft pick - give the kids more good experience - shed the veterans without hurting the cap

There is no log jam. The Flyers only have 6 healthy dmen and one of them is Christian Folin who could easily be benched. He's been benched most of the season. |

I see both sides, I think they should have called up Myers last month. It was apparent AMAC was just not going to play well, not that anyone has. Now, I can see where Myers be a driving force to the Phantoms be successful can do wonders for Myers.

Fletcher only has 6 healthy dmen on the roster, but yet he still refuses to bring up Myers or Friedman, both of whom are having great seasons in the AHL and could easily slot in on the 3rd period with Hagg.
I guess he's worried they might make mistakes that will affect the team's drive for the playoffs. - Feanor
All of you guys chill with the callups from the phantoms. I have a few tickets for games there will be no one left to watch. |

I think they should have called Myers up in October when Folin and Mac struggled to be a nightly regular. Now, I don’t see the point in calling anyone up outside of fans wanting to see new young faces. We’re not playing for anything. The phantoms are.
I’m hoping for a Mac boyout at this point. |

Yes, every player is different. Very few 21 year old dmen have ever up ES points in the AHL the way Myers is doing. He's up there with what Justin Schultz, OEL, Montour, Carlson and Barrie did.

Now they weren't. They could have kept Lyon up. Fletcher sent him down after the Vancouver game, and called Hart up instead.
It's hilarious how it doesn't even occur to you that calling up good young players is a way for the team to get better. You really don't have to pin your hopes on mediocre vets like Weise, Folin and MacDonald. - Feanor
Feel free to treat this as a rhetorical question.
Why do you think the choice to bring up some d-men is so obviously the right answer to you, but apparently isn't the right answer to the Flyers management team? |

Been reading this thread about development now, maybe I am misunderstanding, but it sounds like most seem to think a player's development takes place in other leagues. No player enters the NHL as a developed player...no one. Just like Patrick and Sanheim are currently developing and still have a lot developing to do.
Like mentioned already every player and situation is different, but more time in lower leagues does not mean they are more ready for the NHL. They still got 2-3 developing years WHILE in the NHL. Hedman didn't happen overnight. |

I'm not aware of all the specifics but there are roster limitations on how many players we can bring up. It's great to question why certain players aren't recalled, but a lot more goes into those decisions. |

Exactly, many factors come into play. It's not as simple as the best players are going to play or this or that guy stinks get rid of them. If it was that easy why would every team carry crappy players?
Just like Hart's situation, if there weren't so many goaltending injuries he probably would never of played a game for the Flyers this year, but the fact he has gotten a taste of real NHL action has increased his development. Development doesn't really start until you know what the big show is really about. |

For sure, I think as soon as they think Myers is ready to be developing in a top 4 NHL role, he will be up. The other top 4 developing d-men have struggled this season and that may be part of the hesitation. Too many young d at once. I think he will be up at some point this season. The Sanheim promotion helps.

I don't think anyone has said that when a players AHL time is done and the player is promoted that his development time is finished and he is a complete player. So I don't know where you're getting that from.

I think a lot of GM's like to be cautious in handling younger players especially when the parent club is struggling. There are also sometimes certain areas of a players game that they want to improve even though he is dominating in other situations. I'd much rather leave a player down too long than call him up too soon. It's not easy breaking into the NHL as a young player.

Yes, for this reason, it really doesn’t bother me at all the he is playing for the Phantoms. I hope he gets all situations experience for the time he is there.

One thing I don’t understand is why nothing has been done directly to shake the players up. Waive some vets, bring up some kids, and make a trade. Obviously with trades you may want to wait until closer to the deadline to maximize return. This team has plenty of dead weight that could be easily waived and sent down to send a message to the rest of the players just going through the motions. I would immediately waive Weal(his 100 chances are over), amac(both worthless and useless) and Lehtera(how and why is he still here?). I am bored watching this team, if we are going to lose how about a little entertainment? |

Agreed
NAK is the only Phantom prospect I’d like to see called up. He’s a 3rd year pro with nearly 200 games of AHL experience. He’s as ready as he’ll ever be. |
