One thing I don’t understand is why nothing has been done directly to shake the players up. Waive some vets, bring up some kids, and make a trade. Obviously with trades you may want to wait until closer to the deadline to maximize return. This team has plenty of dead weight that could be easily waived and sent down to send a message to the rest of the players just going through the motions. I would immediately waive Weal(his 100 chances are over), amac(both worthless and useless) and Lehtera(how and why is he still here?). I am bored watching this team, if we are going to lose how about a little entertainment?

I agree that something needs to be done to wake up this locker room. The guys look defeated.

Fletcher only has 6 healthy dmen on the roster, but yet he still refuses to bring up Myers or Friedman, both of whom are having great seasons in the AHL and could easily slot in on the 3rd period with Hagg.

I guess he's worried they might make mistakes that will affect the team's drive for the playoffs.

Or, since they are playing in Philly tonight, DC tomorrow and back to Philly Thursday if they need to recall someone its can happen the day of without issue.

Feel free to treat this as a rhetorical question.

Why do you think the choice to bring up some d-men is so obviously the right answer to you, but apparently isn't the right answer to the Flyers management team?

- Scoob

2 different sets of coach/GM included in that apparently clueless management team. Including the guy who coached them for a bunch of games already.

Must be a conspiracy.

Been reading this thread about development now, maybe I am misunderstanding, but it sounds like most seem to think a player's development takes place in other leagues. No player enters the NHL as a developed player...no one. Just like Patrick and Sanheim are currently developing and still have a lot developing to do.

Like mentioned already every player and situation is different, but more time in lower leagues does not mean they are more ready for the NHL. They still got 2-3 developing years WHILE in the NHL. Hedman didn't happen overnight.

- Glak18

Nobody believes development belongs in other leagues. Patrick, Konecny And Provorov are above minor league players, so they’re developing in the nhl.

Being promoted from the AHL to the NHL has no bearing whatsoever on the expansion draft unless the player is aged under 20.

Myers, Friedman, NAK and Vorobyev will all be eligible for the 2021 ED no matter what Fletcher does.

- Feanor

Have the official expansion rules been released or are we assuming they will be the same as it was for Vegas?

Feanor smarter than you, me and Flyers management. It’s amazing how he escapes MJL treating every single day.

If they were going to make a push to really get this team into contention it would of had to been made before the holiday freeze. Right now its too little too late. Best to keep the vets up and sell. Myers and some forwards will get the call up after the TDL imo.

Agreed
NAK is the only Phantom prospect I’d like to see called up. He’s a 3rd year pro with nearly 200 games of AHL experience. He’s as ready as he’ll ever be.

- BiggE

Yes, I’m thinking if they do sell at the deadline, we will see NAK and perhaps others at that time.

I don't agree completely with your player assessments but those moves would hardly make a ripple in the waters of the locker room.

Gird your loins for the Patrick Maroon hat trick and the Binnington shutout.

Not again, I cannot understand this train of thought. No, he needs to lead by example and minimize his own errors and continue to be the offensive wizard that he is. The mismatch lines/pairings, roster holes, goaltending injuries, and young development struggles are not on him.

Caring doesn’t seem to be the problem.

I think it's the right answer, because it makes the Flyers vastly more interesting to watch.

We know they aren't going anywhere with their current roster.

But, to answer your question as best as I could, management is not interested in putting out an interesting product as much as they are a winning product. Is running Weise, AMac, and guys like that the way to do that? That hasn't been proven to be the case thus far.

Maybe management lets the vets play out the string because they don't want to be viewed as unfriendly to potential free agents? Maybe they really think those AHL players need more seasoning? Maybe it's a cap management thing (keep paying those guys AHL money instead of NHL money)?

I don't think the Flyers' problems are a lack of caring. They don't need to "hockey harder".

Some of it is talent. Some of it is stylistic fit. Some of it is guys having abysmally bad years (Provy, Ghost, and Voracek, to an extent) and not enough guys to pick up the slack. It happens. A good example of a good player having a bad year that you would never think of because he had such a great playoff run is Danny Briere.
Go back and look at Danny Briere's 2010 regular season (spoiler alert: He had a bad regular season, by his standards).

Claude Giroux is not the problem. He appears to be widely respected in the lockerroom, but if you're looking for the guy to tear someone a new bumhole in public or in the press, I don't think Captain Claude is your guy.

Jordan Schmaltz (STL) on waivers today. He's 25 and a right handed shot. I'd probably waive Folin and pick him up.
