The Marlins seem to have a fire sale every 4-5 years - Assman22
The Cubs a few years ago too I suppose. So more common than I mentioned but like another poster mentioned, he didn’t really say anything wrong, and he didn’t say they wouldn’t make trades.
He wasn’t as deliberate as some people would have liked, but I don’t think that’s really a misstep.

Anaheim needs to do something, they are 30th in scoring, maybe we can drop AA on them. |

I would have to agree: the 3rd line is the pivotal one to ensure the team can roll 4 lines. Although improving, the Hawks have been rolling two 4th lines much of the season.
Although Colliton loves Kampf and plays him like a middle 6 center, he is a 4C who should only play up whenever there are injuries. If he moves to 4C and Anisimov is the default 3C unless he is upgraded at the TDL or this summer.
Next season:
Saad - Toews - RW
DeBrincat - Strome - Kane
Kahun - Anisimov - Sikura
Perlini - Kampf - Caggiula
The bolded are players who could be upgraded if someone better is attainable. Perlini could possibly play 3rd line.
Obviously, a top 6 winger is needed. Solidifying the bottom 6 is crucial as well but some pieces in place as building blocks and options. - AEL_Fox
I like where you are going with this.
Move AA at TDL or before the draft for a 3rd round pick (or better).
Tank to get a top 5 pick (Hughes, Kakka, Podkolzin, Cozens, Dach)
Sign a FA for the 3rd line (Brock Nelson).

Not to mention, what he has to sell as rentals consists of the following:
Ward
Rutta
Kunitz
Kruger
Davidson
Woof. - Davewn
Yeah there is that, and it appears to be a buyers market. Per Craig Custance: “Half the league is a moderate to aggressive seller,” said one GM.

Nah. Strome is a Q guy. Really heady, digs in the corners, would have been a good fit. The young guys that Q didnt play have done a whole lot of nothing elsewhere. - fattybeef

I like those ideas. Nelson as 3C to replace Anisimov then one of the top 5 in the draft to play wing in the top 9:
Saad - Toews - RW
DeBrincat - Strome - Kane
Kahun - Nelson - Sikura
Perlini - Kampf - Caggiula
Insert the #1 draft pick in one of the bolded spots, then see how Sikura and/or Kahun fit in. Getting an elite top 6 winger via free agency is going to be tough as the big fish will have lots of suitors and the Hawks may simply be outbid.
There's always the trade route especially if Keith is reportedly rumored to be shipped and who knows about Seabrook.
This also doesn't account for any surprise prospects who make the team out of camp next fall. This one is doubtful but always still a possibility, i.e. a prospect like Barratt or Kurashev or even say Hagel. |

The Hawks desperately need a big bodied goal scorer for the top 6. Saad is a nice all around player but he doesn't exactly scare opposing coaches. He is a complimentary piece at best.

Same story as everywhere else he has been.
He scored his first goal in 15 games the other night, is 9G, 5A on the season, with 8 of those points in the first 10 games or so. At current pace 25pts may be a stretch.
Started the year hot then played his way into Torts doghouse.
Those rookie numbers look like a pipe dream to happen again. |

Brutal to start and better lately. Flames always seem to play well against us. Hopefully we can keep Seabrook away from Johnny Hockey.
I was looking at the Flames on CapFriendly today - a lot of 3.5-6M dollar contracts with quite a bit of term. They seem to be built pretty well. Hopefully for you they can put it together shortly. |

This is where a UFA like Stone would fit the bill. Lee from the Isles, too. |

A guy who was ill-served by his drafting team, I think.
A third round pick, the Rags brought him to MSG straight out of juniors at 19 - spent only 16 days in the "A" when Arizona sent him down for a while.
Perhaps - with some patience - a year or two in the minors would have benefited him greatly - now, I'm not sure there can be any salvation for him. |

I would do this trade. Allows the Hawks to clear even more cap room to rebuild, dumps Keith while he still has some value, and gives the Hawks another decent pick plus a potential project like Strome was in Puljujarvi. Spooner would just be a salary swap that the Hawks at least can get out from under in 2 years as opposed to 4 with Keith.
Edmonton Gets:
Keith (5.5 for 4 years)
Hawks 4th rounder in 2019 via Boston
Chicago Gets:
Puljujarvi (925k Expiring RFA deal)
1st Round Pick 2019 or 2020
Ryan Spooner (3.1 for 2 years)
Edmonton only gains a net salary of ~1.5 million this year, then 2.4 million in 2020, then Keith's full hit the last 2 years, which by then with the cap potentially rising more makes that cap hit almost nothing. |

Yeah he catches teams with his speed occasionally but it is so easy for opposing D-men to just push him to the outside and contest with a stick and he doesn't seem to be able to maintain possession most of the time.
He is really starting to be a disappointment. I was expecting him to develop a bit more. His has really leveled off.
Is he all that different then Perlini? Better defensively sure but put Perlini on a top line and 2nd unit PP and he probably scores 40-45pts a season too. |

Watched a bunch of World Juniors. Kaapo Kakko is the guy the Hawks need to luck into in the draft. 17 years old, listed a 6' 1" 181, already playing against men this year.
Hughes was hurt and missed 3 games, and he reminded me a little of a smaller Nick Schmaltz, a lot of skating around on the exterior, looking to pass. No goals, 4 assists, and was -1.
And Jokiharju was excellent, played about every other shift on D, moved the puck, well positioned in the D zone, looked like he was head and shoulders above the players without his experience level.

Oilers probably do that asap. Spooner is meh at best and Puljujarvi has been a huge bust but I think he's just been in a bad spot there. Still think Keith ends up in TOR as Babcock is the coach and he'll waive his NTC |

He was supposed to be back in Chicago last night. There was no word on whether he would be back in the lineup today. |

Everyone thought Strome was a bust too, sometimes a change of scenery is the best for parties involved. I don't know what happened to Spooner, he was a nice little player in Boston, and even after he went to New York late last season. As for Puljujarvi, another risky possible bust, but could be the big scoring wing the Hawks have been looking for. I actually like the trade prposal, but would Dunc go to Edmonton? Doubtful.
