Flacco is awful too though? I don’t get it.
Their O line gets murdered in pass pro and Flacco is a statue - sbroads24
Thank God Bill's fans do not need to talk about signing or trading for joe Flacco for the next 6 months.
We are past that, finally with Allen looking good |

At some point, can we talk about the coaches or system being the problem and not every other forward on the team other then eichels line.
Eichel is most likely freelancing most of the time.
The pp is putrid at times. Also coaching? - Boss34
I don't think you can make a compelling case that the coaching is dragging this team down.

I would say timid coaching is a factor in not scoring. After the top line, our 4 most dangerous scoring threats (imo) are
Smith/Sheary-Mittelstadt-Thompson
We don't see that line, and we certainly don't see Mittelstadt playing 2C minutes regularly. If we want to see more production and growth, I think grouping 3 of these guys together in something approaching 2nd line minutes is the most likely way to generate offense. Could it lead to breakdowns? Of course.
But the current formula of 3 3rd lines with diluted talent is uninspired and ineffective imo |

it's a valid point... if some of these guy leave and start scoring than we'd have to really question it... but the one thing I will say is I don't like How Housley has handled the middle six.. and I really don't like how Mitts has been handled. |

players not playing well
there's a question mark by every player on that list....old, young, never produced without playing next to superstars, never produced at all, etc.

Exactly.... playing it safe is not always the right answer (see McStupid) .
Are we playing not to loose OR are we playing to win and get better??? Whats the plan? |

Mittelstadt has played significant minutes on 10 different line combinations. They've tried him with every winger who's been on the team more than 2 games. My biggest complaint is that they broke up 23 + 43 the minute Sam looked like an NHL player again.

Your definition of significant minutes =/= 2nd line minutes though
And I would argue that any minutes with Elie are instantly disqualified from significant |

I know what you're saying, but they're good enough to not have to play in the actual first round. And that's with them slipping a bit at the end of the year. Same for the Saints.
I'm taking Mahomes over Luck every time. Luck has been very hit or miss. You might get the Luck from the absurd 45-44 Chiefs game where he throws for like 450 yards or you might get a NE game where he throws for 331, but on 20-41 and 2 TD 4 INT. And even in that Chiefs game he still threw 3 INT and had a sub 100 rating.
Andrew Luck's rating in the playoffs 59.8, 98.7, 53.0, 104.0, 76.2, 23.0, 88.3. Not exactly spectacular numbers. 11 TD 13 INT in his playoff career. Mahomes may be worse, but we know what Luck is, and it's not great, yet. |

Has any Mittelstadt line earned true second line minutes, despite them desperately wanting them to be? It's an obvious no, and that's the problem right now. He's just not playing that well, in any line permutation. |

Has Mittelstadt ever played with Thompson though? I don't think so, at least not for any stretch of time. I thought Sheary-Mitts-Okposo was the best one |

It's his second most frequent combo:
31.5% MITTELSTADT,CASEY - OKPOSO,KYLE - SHEARY,CONOR
11.4% MITTELSTADT,CASEY - OKPOSO,KYLE - THOMPSON,TAGE
9.2% MITTELSTADT,CASEY - REINHART,SAM - SHEARY,CONOR

11% of the time, but with Thompson at LW. I like Thompson better at RW, and I think Sheary or Smith would add a nice speed element to the line at LW |

Sure, go for it. I'm just beyond the point where I think re-mixing the bottom 9 is going to result in a significant change. Eventually, someone will get hot for more than a game or two, or things just start to click for Casey and he breaks through. |

It's definitely not going to happen with Elie and Pominville tho, just like CJ isn't going to find sustained offensive success with Larsson and Okposo. |

eagles and rams in nfc - homiedclown

Chiefs go one and done every year. They were two 4th down conversions away from losing to the ravens at home two weeks ago, lost to the chargers two weeks ago at home. Colts are 10-1 in their last 11. I like Luck's chances of scoring more points on that putrid Chiefs defence then Mahomes scoring 40+ on that sneaky efficient Colts D.
Perhaps my Broncos bias is blinding me (in wanting the chiefs to lose) but if you're betting on the underdog this week I think the Colts have the best shot. |

I think the kid needs the upcoming week off badly. He hasn't played well, and I don't blame any of it on the line combo's.

The two issues are inextricably linked imo. Eichel was saddled with Girgs last year, and finished slightly below a PPG. Mittelstadt at 20 is utterly (frank)ed with Elie and Pominville imo |

My logic is that Luck is the epitome of "not good" in the playoffs. The Chiefs lost with Alex Smith. Alex Smith is not Pat Mahomes. But we also have no playoff tape on Mahomes. In that system Mahomes is better. And yes, your bias is showing a bit. I think the Pats are the most likely team to get beat. The Texans had a great run too, and looked awful. I think Andy Reid vs Frank Reich could be a blood bath. Let's hope for another 45-44 game. That was awesome. I don't think the difference is huge, but I'm giving the edge to the Chiefs mainly on Luck's pedestrian at best playoff history. |
