Why use a 6th round pick on a player and then don't bother to try and develop him?
Another stupid move by Canucks management. - manvanfan
He wasnt good enough, theres only so many spots in Utica and they make everyone earn it. |

I'm fine with him going back to Finland. They probably should have sent him back there when he didn't take a regular spot out of training camp.
Pro's and Con's to having Gadjovich and Lind stay in the Ahl this season instead of going back to junior. Won't know which is right until the next season. - manvanfan
Lind is playing. Gadjovich not really. He could be sent down but who knows maybe he spends everyday working on his skating with great coaches. It is a development league, id imagibe they sre set up whether they are playing or not |

im not familiar with WAR or Wins Above Replacement. Just by the sounds of it, seems like a backup goalie stat lol. - Codes1087
Its absolutely better suited for sports like baseball where its a one person per position game by game.
I just found it funny that EP was first and Pavelski was second. 😉😉 |

It's weird though, if you actually go to the page Pavelski is 12th. Skinner, Stamkos, OV, and Laine are the rest of the top 5.
Karlsson and Vlasic are in last
Also Petey is in 3rd for penalties drawn |

I know, I was being sarcastic. I was poking fun at the people that blame management for every little thing that they do. |

Different categories will provide different results.
WAR really depends on what's behind that player. Some teams have more depth at certain positions over others.
Behind Skinner for wingers in Buffalo you have Sheary with 15 points and Pominville with 18 points. That's a big drop off from Skinner's 41 points.
Karlsson has Burns who I read somewhere is on pace for 90 points this season. At 34 years old. Hint Hint Codes.
Stamkos has Kucherov, Point, Johnson
So really WAR in hockey would depend on the strength of the position you play on your own team.
For all this, I don't really believe in WAR for hockey. I just came across the post and Pavelski was second and I was making my case earlier for signing Pavelski in the off season. |

Lind is playing and starting to show improvement.
The way I truly saw Lind and Gadjovich this season was that they were in limbo between leagues. They were better than most in the CHL but weren't going to make an impact in the AHL. As I had said there were pro's and con's to keeping them up and sending them down. The results will be determined at the start of next season if they flounder again or start thriving. |

About this time every year, rumors start to pop up regarding the top KHL players who could have NHL suitors in a few months. Today, it was reported that Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas is in Russia to scout some of their own players and potentially meet upcoming free agents. One of those pending free agents is Sergei Andronov, who Darren Dreger of TSN reports is a “player of interest” for the Maple Leafs and “several” other NHL clubs. Dreger notes that Andronov could command a salary of somewhere between $1.5-2.0MM next season
So many of these players fail. Toronto can keep signing and wasting their money. |

It's true, but you could say the same about the draft. That goalie in Edmo is doing pretty well. |

Dadanov is good in Florida too but at least he was in his prime and had the stats to back it up in the KHL. (More then a ppg) when he left. |

Yeah I see nothing in Andronovs stats that indicate he can make any impact in the NHL |

yeah, I don't get this one. Looks like he's a 3rd liner in the KHL judging by his numbers. KHL is closer to the AHL than NHL in terms of talent so paying this guy 1.5M seems stupid on the surface. |

It's a baseball stat. Supposed to show how valuable 1 player is vs another to their particular team. Basically Pettersson being at the top of the list means he is more valuable individually to the Canucks than any other player in the league is to their team. - NorthNuck
not quite. wins above replacement is supposed to show how many wins a players contribution is relative to a replacement level player. its supposed to eliminate the idea of value to a team by saying if the canucks had a regular player instead of petey they would have 3 less wins
as others hve said though its not a reliable hockey stat considering the variables that contribute to 'wins' |

And what is a "regular player" anyways? In a league where all kinds of players are expected to fill completely different roles you can't really come up with a universal average. |
