Why not? What better replacement for Elder or Tanev than Karlsson. Arguably 2 of the best Swedes in the game right now.

big time!

I think SJ will have about 25 mil in cap space with really only Timo Meier and LeBanc that are RFAs - not sure if they're gonna let Big Joe and Pavelski walk or not. So they can probably make EK an offer. He'll be 29 when his new contract kicks in - ?X8 years...those are the scary kind of contracts.

- Brooks_Light

Big Joe is done. He will retire with or without the cup. This is the last kick for SanJoe. If they come up short or have an early exit it will be break up time.

That's fair but in the sense of having one of the best defenseman in the league on your team it is very enticing.

It would be ok for a year or two but it's Luongo all over again that contract would end up killing us long term.

Not opposed to the term, but giving a 35 year old free agent 7 million aav just seems so counter-productive towards becoming a younger/faster team. Not to mention, Pavelski's numbers, albeit impressive, are surely inflated due to playing on a pretty stacked team and pretty good PP.

Adding another PPG player plus Hughes and another high draft pick this year doesn't make Van a stacked team?

Rumour is that he’s looking for a Canuck contract. Positioning himself to get noticed.

i just disagree with how we get to the end goal is all. I don't see shortcuts being the way to do it, and as good as a player as Pavelski is, his age and in my opinion, his inflated stats, aren't worth the $

Short cuts? Are you waiting for Van to draft an entire team of star players? As JB mentioned that teams like Wpg have about a dozen drafted players on the team. That leaves 11 others that have to come from other places.

So it's the entire organization that doesn't talk to their players. Not just JB, Johnson is in on it too.

its impossible to have a team entirely made up of kids who were drafted into the organization. free agents and trades are obviously apart of the process of building a team. However, I just disagree with giving term and high $'s to what will be a 35 year old free agent. I don't expect the Canucks to be a highly competitive playoff team next year, even with Hughes. Its going to take more than him, and I am not sure supplementing him, or the team, with older free agents is the way to do it, just my opinion.

Why use a 6th round pick on a player and then don't bother to try and develop him?

Another stupid move by Canucks management.

just a difference of opinion. I understand why good teams do it, but i don't think we are a good team, which is why i don't want to do it.

You are so clueless it’s fun. He wasn’t good enough to play a regular shift. So he was banished to Finland. At his age, and given his poor performance, he can be writtten off as a future prospect.
