Dude, I was trying to make a pithy remark based on what I thought about what you said. I don't know who Nick Foles is, nor do I remember what you said about him. I can't answer everyone here.

If you're trying to tell me that injuries aren't the deciding factor in who wins in a salary cap league, I don't know what to tell you, you're wrong.

- James_Tanner

Injuries a factor and a valid excuse but most all teams have injuries at some point. For example oilers lost three guys from top four and have had to scramble for whatever type blueliner they could get.

This is lazy reporting. You don't know what the situation behind closed doors in Edmonton is and after screaming for change at the GM level 3 times, getting what I want and seeing no appreciable change on the ice (except for 1 season where Chiarelli was in fact GM) I'm coming to the realization that the problem may be above him. Clear out the 'red wine sessions' and let the man do his job and judge him on that performance before you hand the job to some twit with a math degree.
Regarding the injury pass to Chayka, before Klefbom went down with a staff infection in '15 the Oilers were on pace for a playoff appearance. Clearly Chiarelli must have been messing with his skates or something because you're holding him accountable for that. This year as well, the Oilers were holding a spot and climbing before injuries to Kefbom again and Russell forced him to react. I know people didn't like who he brought in, but someone should give him credit for still GMing for the future as opposed to knee jerk trades that might save his job in the short term but further handcuff the team down the road.
I don't like the situation at winger, but I don't blame him for JP's slow development and anyone but perhaps Columbus would have drafted him in the Oilers' place. KY seems like a good player until it matters and his offence dries up. I want to pin that on the GM, but I don't know which advanced stat some tweep would use for it. Bringing in Lucic was a good move. Other, competent GMs would have made the same move in PC's place and they would be in the exact same situation with a guy whose offence just disappeared.
Reinhart was a mistake but there is context there. The fallout of that poor deal led directly to a much improved and professionalised scouting and procurement department and if you want to punish for listening to a so called magnificent bastard that he inherited from previous failed regeimes doesn't it follow that his work to clean up that part of the organization should be acknowledged as well?
I'm not nominating him for any awards, but the 'Charelli sucks' narrative isn't fair to him, and more importantly it's not getting to the root of the problems in Edmonton. Kaatz can take a step back and let his people do their job, or he can let his team languish because it's given him the opportunity to hang out with his heroes from the 80s and pretend he's going to recreate them. As long as he's taking the second option, I'm not too sure what impact whoever gets brought in to be his 5th GM (in what, 12 years?) is going to be able to have.

Watching Chiarelli work is like watching the video of the Lethbridge cop running over the deer.

"even though the championship of every major sport is decided by who is and isn't injured every single year."

Nick Foles says "what's up."

Fact is best ability is availability and some people are more prone to missing time due to injuries for a myriad of reasons. It is the job of a GM to manage and understand the likelihood of injury and to create depth to mitigate those injuries.

And didn't the Pens just recently win a Cup, without their star D-man, Letang, in the lineup throughout the playoffs????

And didn't they win another Cup with Crosby missing a chunk of playoff time???

Teams regularly have to overcome injuries to win championships. The fact the Coyotes finish bottom 5 EVERY year BECAUSE mainly the "injury bug" is the lamest excuse losers can use......
Come up with some NEW material Tanner.....

Injuries aren't the deciding factor in who wins in a salary cap league... it's about who plays their best when it matters. Assuming you would necessarily win because you're not injured is like assuming that you'd be playing in the NBA if you were a foot taller. It would certainly help, but at some point you have to stop making excuses and deliver actual results.

It'd be like getting together a Nirvana reunion, but getting Adam Lavigne to be the frontman.
