For all the poop he got last year from the fans and from Housley (some of it deserved, no doubt)- Benoit Pouliot was a solid FA add at $1m last year. 13 goals, and he never sniffed the top 6. There was nothing really done in that vein this year.

There are examples of smaller steals we've had (Pilut/E-Rod (he is a pretty decent college FA signing), even trades that have worked out well (Skinner), but the big signings we've made recently have all been poop.

oh we really suck at FA signings if he stands out as one of our best.. That dude is 32 without a job this year and has played for 7 teams in 10 years.....the Sky is falling!!!!

Berglund quitting on the team (and the resulting freed up cap space) just made the trade that much better for Botts IMO. Also, when ROR's play starts to decline in the next 3-years, we will all be thankful not to have the $7.5 million on the books.

Bingo. People love having recency bias though and assess the trade over 40 some odd games. Time will tell. ROR is doing well in St.Louis this year but the trade was always about the future.
