Wait till you see what Simmonds does when playing with McDavid. I think Simmonds can still be a big point producer in the NHL for a few more years, my issue is you need a center that can both create scoring opportunities for him to cash in on, and be responsible enough defensively to make up for his miscues, and be fast enough to make up for his slow skating. Players the Flyers dont have ATM, and I dont want to pay for the years of non-production 4 years from now.

That isnt really a fair argument. Weise would look just as good beside McDavid. Regardless that opinion proves my point that he needs linemates to carry him to be a good player. Right now we see him as he is, that is how he is when he doesnt have the talent around him. Because of the PP struggles all we see know is what he truly is because we arent blinded by his pp numbers. He is a grinder nothing more. He has to play with top level talent to be relevant. By himself he is nothing but a liability.

How do you think stating that Weise would look just as good as Simmonds would points to credibility? The majority of players in the NHL need to form chemistry and play as a line in order to produce. The idea that Simmonds has been a PP specialist is a myth.

You know who was in the same EXACT situation as Sharp..Ryan Potulny, but no one talks about him. I guess because Potulny didn't have the same career it's not as fun to play the what-if game.

I mean just take a look at the Eagles and how stupid they are for trading DeMarco Murray. Dude leads the league in rushing, comes to the Eagles and only runs for 700 some yards then gets traded only to run for 1200. The Eagles could of had a 1200 yard rusher...I mean the team or situation the player is put in doesn't affect players performance one bit.

Also this tiresome excuse of why players play poor because of chemistry is getting old. How many games does it take 5, 10, 20 a full 82 game season? People act like players get a 30 sec shift and that's all they get.

Poor decision making, flopping around in the corner like a chicken with their head cut off, not bad checking, missing wide open nets...that's not a chemistry issue, that's a player issue.

Does Jake not play defense because he hasn't had enough time to bond with his linemates? Maybe he is trying to figure out what his center's favorite food is and it's distracting.

Is Giroux the only one on the team who can give effort no matter who he plays with?

The Flyers issues go way past which line is producing or not, it has to do with everything in between with lack of effort and making good decisions with the puck.

Simmonds gets 40% (148 of 370) of his points on the PP. That seems about right for him.

His plus-minus is rough over the last three years at -50. He is not a great 5on5 player but if he is scoring 30 per year you can get past it. He did not reach 30 last year and he will not this year.

Time to move on.

Add Vorobyov to that list soon.

I wonder if Cooper Marody will work out in the NHL, hopefully we can add him to the list of players we gave up while ignoring the situation they were in.

What is he worth: WAYNE SIMMONDS

The best way to judge a player is what they provide for the team when they don't score goals. Of course there are some players in the league that are so gifted offensively that they can get by on that alone, but the Flyers don't have any of them. So let's look at what other ways can help a team win.

- Do they generate offensive chances for other players?
- Do they have possession abilities to keep the puck in the offensive zone?
- Do they have defensive awareness that keep other lines from scoring when they aren't?
- Are they a physical presence that disrupts other lines?
- Do they win board battles that keep pucks in the offensive zone or get the puck out of the defensive zone?
- Do they win the majority of the faceoffs taken?
- Do they have high energy work ethic?
- Do they stick up for teammates when the time calls for it?

Look at every single forward on the Flyers and ask yourself what they provide for the team when they don't score and now you know their worth.

Although here is a hypothetical question:

If none of the players scored a goal for the Flyers the whole season, who would be more valuable to the team?

I'd argue that Giroux and, this year being out of the norm, Ghost provide enough offensively.

That's the problem with the Flyers. They have too many players that don't score and also don't excel at any other aspect. Add in lazy habits regarding team defense from virtually every player and you have a last place team.

Giroux is a defenseman?

I knew the team had issues, but I didn't know they'd reached this dire of a situation.
