So yeah, not the best example, I could use Brett Hull and Mike Bossy instead. But just saying, "Well, if he doesn't score" doesn't work because he does, in fact, score at times. Enough to justify his spot is a different discussion.

My whole point was justifying a role for a player who isn't scoring. No one is going to score every game, but they have to provide something for a team to be successful. So if a player's role is to score goals, but aren't scoring goals on a consistent basis while providing nothing else...well hell give me a contract I can do that every night.

I think we all would. When you see one readily available that doesn't cripple this team's future, please let us know.

Yes, I saw a few out in the rumor mill this season, but I had my doubts that they were ever truly available. That’s the problem, isn’t it? Which is why I was sad we didn’t get the St. Louis kid on waivers this week.

True, but I am not only referring to JvR. People point to goaltending issues or defensemen, but the biggest issue for this team is the forwards. When a team is struggling this bad this is when it is the easiest to evaluate the players. The bottom of the barrel tends to have the brightest spotlight on them.

The best teams in the league don't all have the best players in the league, no matter how much people want to believe that. When a team is winning it's much easier to deal with the ugly.

He's 25 and has split time in the NHL/AHL the last 3 years, and has put up 5 points in 42 NHL games. I get ice time and all, but if he was a top-pair guy, they'd find a way to work him in, or another team would have traded for him a long time ago.

Better than what they have now, maybe. Legit top-pair guy, I doubt it.
