It's not at all ridiculous for Simmonds to be seeking a deal with term. - MJL
Yeah.
No one should be surprised. Probably his last big long term commitment. Also seeing what guys like Backes, Ladd and Lucic got I am sure he sees himself right around there even though I know those deals were couple years ago.
I am curious. Before the start of the season we all thought Provorov was going to get something big. Not saying he still wont but has this season possibly changed that a little? I still see something like 8 years in term but could this have hurt his cap hit or will you still be paying for the potential moving forward.

There is absolutely no way he gets an 8 year term, especially on Provy's side. If he wants to get paid it is more beneficial for him to take shorter term, hopefully have a bounce back year or two then get a big pay day.
Flyers side:
3-5 years for 4.5 per
Provy's side:
2-4 years for 5-6 per |

Of course not, it is a smart business move. Most likely his last NHL contract so he wants to capitalize on it for security, but for the Flyers it would be a terrible business move. - Glak18
I'd rather have Simmonds on a deal like that than JvR.

For the right money, I believe the Flyers absolutely would like to sign him to an 8 year deal.

100000% agreed.
I would rather pay Simmonds 10m per for 6 years if that meant JvR disappeared forever. |

Its quite simple, this team is too slow and doesn't hustle. JVR hasn't taken a hard stride this season. I would give him away to any team foolish enough to take him.
Players disappear for 15-20-30 minute stretches at a time.
Nolan Patrick hasn't carried the puck on his stick for more that 2 consecutive seconds in a game.
The forwards are at the red line and the dmen are pinned in their zone 15-20 times a game.
Players have the puck at the hashmarks and instead of shooting they try some back door pass that never works multiple times per game. A team this untalented should not pass up any shot.
Other than Giroux and maybe Ghost, no player should assume they get powerplay time. They are 30th in the league! Giroux has inflated the stats of every line mate he has had and made them millions more than they deserve.
However, the team obviously has no leadership. True leaders/captains don't allow constant losing streaks of 6-7-8-10 games in multiple seasons.
How does the penalty kill coach have a job? I would like to apply for this position, I can guarantee better or status quo results.
I could go on and on.
BUT, It needs to be said again that JVR may be the worst player/contract in the NHL. He plays hot potato with the puck, doesn't back check, doesn't crash the net, doesn't make physical contact with the other team. A 7 million dollar healthy scratch would be the teams best value for him right now.
Yeah, the goalie situation is laughable but that's just an easy excuse for fans and media type that really don't understand hockey...every thing listed above is why this team blows.
The Flyers haven't been the joke of the league for a while...it kinda sucks be back

1) JvR has had 2 decent games this season, he has been so bad I remember the 2 games.
2) Straight confidence issue, NoPa just does not want the puck
3) To be fair, I have seen JvR jump...literally jump out of the way to avoid touching someone many times this year. So at least he has that effort. |

Yeah.
I don't think they want to do something short, see him really explode and then be looking at something like 9 million.
If they could get him long term on something like 8 years 6.5-7 per I would probably be happy. I think that's what Doughty got coming out of his ELC. |

Same thing has plagued this team for years, secondary scoring. Combine that with awful goaltending, Ghost and Provy playing horrible, you get a forgettable season. Usual suspects with 10+ goals, after that it is completely pathetic. |

Have to completely disagree with #2, Patrick may be the only guy left in the league that smacks his stick on the ground calling for the puck. Hasn't done much with it, but wanting the puck is not the issue. |

Love the player Simmer is...but I don't think there's a fit here. Not for the term and $ he's looking for. The Flyers also have cheaper youth coming. Hopefully they can get a decent trade made.

I am probably totally in the minority but I wouldn't mind seeing NOPA go to Lehigh and get some confidence back.

I’m guessing he signs for 5 years, 29 million, 5.8 mil aav. |

I think Provy should sign a bridge type deal if he's trying to max his $...take a two year 5.5 mil per deal and get your game back to where it was last year. Then you sign an 8 year deal at a really good, deserved #.

Watching Highlights from on the Fly last night. Funny how every other team scores of the rush, from the point or a Dman making a nice move powering to the net.
That kid from Tampa B. Point is something special, how i wish NP would play.
My new mantra keep wishing!! |

I'm not worried about NoPa, but I really wish he were a more selfish player. |

Same, he wants the puck just needs to be more selfish. Other night he was in all alone with the goalie and made a lateral drop to Jake. Nice play but you are all alone with the goalie, take it to em. |

I love hockey so much that I can't help but watch the games but God I just want the season to be over. Apathy has set in. Embarrassing that 80% of the team is just trying to ride out the rest of the season. |

Smacking your stick on the ice isn't enough. He isn't scoring or getting scoring chances consistently because he's not getting to the areas of the ice where that happens. He doesn't make himself available for opportunities. He hasnt scored in 20+ games and it's not an accident.

It was in reference to does he want the puck? Yes, he does. Where did I say wanting the puck was enough? The kid clearly has to play better. |

Both Patrick and Lindblom have goalless streaks that exceed 20 games.
These are guys that were pencilled into the top 9 at the start of the year. |
