Thanks Carol.
Same Rules apply for last expansion draft.

We are worried about the only defender that would be eligible and worth enough to be picked when he can be protected? |

I don't discount that many other countries have kids that aren't back to help their junior teams out, but I feel like that really hurts Canada's chances a lot of years. We put a pretty good squad out on the ice, but we have 2 lines worth of forwards already killing it in the NHL. I'm not saying Fin, or the US didn't earn their titles, just wonder how different the outcome would be if every team played all full junior strength. |

Thank goodness. Although that doesn't seem like Canucks fans not to worry about the most ridiculous things.
Does it matter that Quinn is a halfling and Van might protect him? |

All the big teams, except the Russians, were missing players this year. It's not an excuse for Canada that's rolling into the tournament with like 16 first round picks on the roster and a future top 3 pick.
I think coaching/the selection process were the biggest issue this year. That Canadian PP was a disaster, the team seemed confused by their "system" and there was a lot of scoring talent not even invited to camp again for some reason. |

The only reason I brought it up is that you can always do the other protection route, which is 8 players, regardless of position. if Hughes didn't have to be protected, there actually might not be any Canucks D that would require protecting (due to the fact that they all suck lol), and the Canucks could just protect 8 forwards and Demko. |

for sure. I am only basing it off of today's roster. I mean at this point, probably not too far of a stretch to say that Hughes plays before Juolevi at this rate anyway. |

Per Ryan Biech:
"The threshold is 11 games due to his waiver age when signing the deal". So essentially, if he DOES play 10 games this season, he will have to be protected in 2021 from the Seattle Expansion draft. - Codes1087

Protected Lists
* Clubs will have two options for players they wish to protect in the Expansion Draft:
a) Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender
b) Eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender |

If they really want Hughes this season then it definitely means the FA is pushing for playoff revenue this year and Benning is his puppet.

Yeah so when you can protect 7F and 3D why would you pick the option of 8 skates to protect 7F and 1D? |

its only speculation about what Friedman and others are posting about the Canucks seriously contemplating about Hughes dropping out of Michigin and joining the Canucks, but IF true, which nothing would surprise me, it just goes to show how bad FA/Benning+Co want to push for the playoffs now. |

lol Linden, go back and read man.
My point was, if Hughes didn't need to be protected, the Canucks could opt to protect 8 forwards and Demko, as currently the D that are on the team suck. |

or they're willing to treat Hughes like every other big time college FA and sign him after his season is done because that's the norm |
