I was also going from that CBA battle between Biech and Robinson. Biech seems to think he is protected no matter what, and Robinson saying he will need protecting. Either way, hopefully he won't need to be protected. - Codes1087
Heaven forbid they loose Gudbranson or Pouliot in the expansion draft... |

Hopefully, although it will suck at the time, we are in a position to lose a better player than Sbisa by then. |

Right?
I heard 11 games was the threshold, but apparently it’s not clear. But honestly, Petey, Horvsey, Boesey, Hughsey and Demmer. Don’t really care who else is available to Seattle.
They could even claim Gaunce and I wouldn’t care |

Like what marwood, carol and i said earlier. Its easy to not worry about who we are protecting in 3 years when we look at our roster now. There isnt a single D man i would be upset about losing if the expansion happened today. I hope that when the draft comes, our entire D is different than it is today. Hughes playing 40 games this season as opposed to 10 (or whatever the number is) isnt worth it to me to having be forced to use a protection slot when the option to avoid that is there. Thats all we were saying. |

Look at how bad the Canucks were during the last expansion draft. They had so little depth that they were able to protect Granlund and it was actually the right call. They straight up trolled Vegas at that draft. Other teams were offering up draft picks and the Canucks offered up Sbisa and Gaunce.
If they are that bad in 2021 then something’s gone wrong. |

Will Palmu be exempt? Asking for Northy - CanuckDon
He has played 12 ahl games, so that count as a season.
He will have to be protected along with Goldobin Lind Gadjovich Jasek Dahlen and Petterson, looks like we will have to expose Horvat and Boeser. |

Well any other dman drafted this past year or in the next draft is safe. Who knows if even 1 of Tanev or Edler will still be here. The rest of the dmen aren’t legit top 4 dmen.
I don’t have any faith in this pro scouting staff/management to acquire a legit top 4 dman from outside of the organization until they actually do it.

Youre right, any kid drafted after this year will be exempt regardless, but having said that, gudbranson is the only defenseman signed through to the expansion draft. Our D should be (hopefully) vastly different by then. I would just prefer the canucks kept to the plan of signing hughes after michigin is done, let him play 9 games, and everyone wins. |

It's still a good deal of time. JB could make one of his trades for a project-type and have him turn out to be a 2nd pairing guy, we could take a shot at a top flight FA and get him because EP will make it an easier sell, OJ might come back in force and end up as a top 4 guy 2 years from now.
Lots of possibilities, why take a senseless risk? |

Its a sure bet that hughes would get protected regardless. But like you said, its just a unnecessary risk and voiding the option for him to play early seems meaningless. |
