Not if he's on a line with Eichel and Skinner, or they need another 3 minutes of ice time. They've taken him off the net front on the PP to play him below the goal line, he's now making the pass to the tap in goal. I'm fine with his career shattering points pace he's on so far. Everything staying the same he'll finish just 2 or 3? shy of his career average in goals. - Wetbandit1

American teams win it, but the cup spends more time in Canada each year during the summer then anywhere else. I never understood this argument. American teams would never see a cup if all the Canadians played within our countries borders. - Pegullaville

Apart from the time the Broncos ran Jason Elam on to the field to kick a field goal with no time outs and almost no time remaining to beat the Bills in Buffalo like 10 years ago I’ve always had peaceful interactions with Americans haha. |

Interesting decision upcoming for JBotts concerning what to do for a 2C.
It is a position we all agree is lacking on this team to drive secondary scoring the team obviously is in need of.
He has stated he prefers younger players with term...so a hockey trade.
However,
- do the Sabres have the assets to acquire a higher end producer, say someone of say a RNH caliber?
- the are not a ton of options available for a 25-35-60 producer with 2 -3 years left
- is it the best strategy for a limited roster to be dealing valuable assets?
- probably costs a 1st, A-Prospect, Roster Player
Another option is to leverage the upcoming UFA market.
Questions for this option are
- will current market conditions drive the Cap hit too high?
- does the longer term of a new contract negatively impact Mitt's assention to 2C
- is C the best position to invest heavily in NOW given the pipeline of Mitts, Asplund, Davidsson
Here are a couple of suitable UFA options to consider, admittedly higher-end producers, but expected production 60+pts:
- Kevin Hayes, 26, 0.85PPG
- Matt Duchane, 27, 1.14PPG
- Brock Nelson, 26, 0.69PPG |

Hayes will be overpaid, Nelson is a former Islander (we’ve seen how this story goes twice), I like Duchene though. Question is money and term but I think Duchene is the 2nd best player on this team if he were to sign here.
Edit: Let me rephrase, he'd be the 2nd best forward if he were to sign here. I ultimately think Dahlin becomes the best player on the team with Eichel as a close second and that should scare the entire Eastern Conference. |

Do we go after Duchene bc we need a Center in the short term?
Or should we look more at Stone, who’s a bit better as a goal scorer and is one of the best defensive forwards in the league?
Probably depends what they think about Mittelstadt going forward
Both of those guys are having career years in Ottawa right now |

I like both players. Whether they want to come here, or if Botts wants them is another story. I think a Skinner-Eichel-Stone line would be up there, if not better then the top lines in Colorado and Boston respectively. |

Trade for RNH
Nylander, 1st,
+ 2 of (Beaulieu, Scandella, Sobotka)
Idk if that works, but something like that?
Sign Stone
Skinner-Jack-Sam
Sheary-RNH-Stone
CjSmith-Mitts-Thompson
Girgs-Larsson-Okposo(unless we dump him)
E Rod
Dahlin-Bogo
Pilut-Risto
McCabe-
Nelson/Guhle/(Scandella or Beaulieu)

For sure
I could see Stone being a nice fit next to Mitts too- once Mitts is really ready for 2C
Until then though...
Trade for RNH?
Sign someone like Nelson or Hayes who can move down to 3C eventually?
Or just roll with Mitts again at 2C next year & bank on him being ready for it? |

Short answer is that they don't have a lot of tradeable assets and JB won't give them up.
A lot of people will toss around a 2nd + a prospect, but we don't have a 2nd or tradeable 3rd. If you won't move a first, you're working with very little. Honestly, this team is not a 2C away from contending anyways.

I think they’ll bring somebody in forsure. That can either handle 2/3rd line Centre duties |

They’ve got room to add a Stone/Duchene
+ a Hayes/Nelson/RNH
-if they dump Okposo (easier said than done)
-or move Sobotka & Scandella/Beaulieu (more realistic option) |

This was a transition year. I honestly would be shocked if it wasn't Botts goal to pick twice in the top 15 this year, get rid of the deadweight, and hit the ground running next year. This team is overachieving even with the recent sputtering. - Pegullaville
pretty much what I said before... I think it's pretty clear what the plan was this year. |

Playoff experience has really helped the Devils this year that’s all I gotta say in terms what I hope for from the rest of this season. Just get Skinner signed. |

It would be an offseason move forsure. I would assume Oilers would be looking to add though not subtract. Even if they did trade RNH I’d assume it would be for an ROR type of package perhaps more. |
