Except Florida did make a huge change. They added Hoffman. The problem with Florida has been goaltending. Lu has been awful and injured

Unlike the Flyers we dont really need change. We need our young players to step up.

With Hart we have had top level goaltending

If Ghost and Provorov start to play well we got our D back

As for forwards we already know we have a good offense. We just got to finish and Koneny, Linblom and Patrick are going to be a big part of that.

As a team selling, only players we are selling that would help us by keeping would be Simmonds if the PP gets going and Raffl. Everyone else is basically addition by subtraction

I think that's where Bob ends up. He lives in Miami in the off season.

That is the thing though hot streaks happen and they arent described by logic. Flyers dont have to play good to win games. When you hot, everything just goes right. You get the bounces, opponents just cant seem to bury the puck, players confidence rises and they starttrying to make plays they werent confident making before. Like with Florida, they were not a good team either and werent a team playing good hockey for most the season and it was just like a switch was flipped.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Generally you get the bounces and things go right when you play well and play the right way. Generally when you don't play well or the right way, you don't get good bounces. For example Gordon made a point to pull Konecny aside and show him the video when he made the extra effort to get back defensively and break up a play after Provorov mishandled the puck. The he got some puck luck with a goal on a goalie misplay. That's the way it works.

I know we are pretty much out of the playoff picture but lets not ignore what happened last year with Florida. They were in a similar position last season. They were 19-22-6. 44 points in 47 games and then within the last 2 months went 25-9-2 and only missed because the Flyers lost more games in OT
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

The 3 big models around playoff probability have the Flyers at 2%, 4%, ~4% chance of making the playoffs. It’s highly unlikely, so best to temper expectations around hoping young players continue to develop and pray to god Fletcher makes some solid moves.

I always knew he could be a solid Dman if he cleaned up his act and if he didnt regulary put himself out of position to go for a hit which is how he used to play. I remember when the trade happened and I was excited and some guy on CSN Philly, Franko if any of you traverse that poop show went off about how garbage he was and how he'd barely be a bottom 6 guy.

Gudas is playing exactly how he normally plays. Last year was a sub par year for him. This year and his first two years as a Flyer, he has been solid.

The great thing about Gudas is that you never have to question his heart, intensity and compete level.

Our team is practically perfectly healthy. Except for the goalies a very healthy year.

And we blow still

Other interesting things I saw when looking at the lineup Bill posted....

The have 9 former first round picks in their lineup today.

2 of those players were the 2nd player taken in their draft year.

If I told you they had that kind of talent right now, you'd probably think they are better, right?

I want the Flyers to be more than just a good team.
- MJL

I want a balanced approach for once where the team is made up of those sought after players that will come here and produce mixed with core and youth the team has.

... can be enticing prospects for others. That's a lot of value to get what you need without destroying the future.

Late back to the conversation...driving. It was a good discussion. Probably better because I was able to just listen.

First off, I think we are mostly all on the same page. Secondly, I have to acknowledge the fact that I am giving Fletcher the benefit of the doubt regarding not being completely stupid.

I want us to be a contender over the long haul. I want a balanced approach to doing that because...I want to be competitive now. I just want to win. The line between winning and losing is not the great cavernous hole it appears to be. It is rope swing bridge apart.

This is a retool not a rebuild. And as for the farm, the whole point is accumulating produce or livestock to sell. It is the same concept, you keep enough of the best to keep the farm running well. You sell or you suffer without income in the present.

This is really where we're not on the same page. We don't know yet if a lot of the livestock will be grad A beef or not so grad A. Have to be careful what you sell.

Yep, this is where I have to trust our scouts and Fletcher.

TSN pundits and some gms are predicting this tdl could be very active. I am confident that Fletcher will be prepared to make significant moves at deadline instead of waiting till draft. I am surprised that we are considered buyers leading up to deadline but I'll take it. I'm also confident that Fletch may show patience and wait till summer if right deal is not there. Either way, it will be interesting 40 or so days.

Everyone is somewhat disappointed in the player....hopefully for his sake and the teams he starts to put it together....the good thing is he’s ultra talented and he works hard. Sometime it just takes a bit longer. I think he have a decent second half if the last couple of games are any indication.
- landros 2

Agree with what you say. I would add that so far NoPa has been injury prone. And for whatever reason his play after returning is not good for quite some time. His big question mark is can he remain healthy so those skills have a chance to mature?

I think that's why it's important to start clearing space to be able to call guys up like NAK and Myers. The flyers will need to start understanding what these guys are at the NHL level in order to make competent off-season decisions. This data could help you decide current roster players that are more expendable and prevent you from blocking youth unnecessarily in the future. I'd like them to get the largest sample size of game action possible to help make some of these off season decisions. Both Myers and NAK have already matured past the AHL, it's time to start seeing where they'll fit into the future of the franchise. I'd also like to see what they have in Friedman.

The Flyers already have a pretty good idea that players like Myers and Aube-Kubel can be NHL players. it's just a question of what level. It's other players that are not nearly as advanced in their development where the real gamble is whether to use them as trade assets or not.

Yes, but the where is equally as important and was my point. Is Myers a potential top 4? Is NAK a top 9 or a bottom 4? I'd like them to be able collect data to start answering these questions.

edit: Right, I wouldn't trade any assets that fit that bill unless the right deal came along. I'm advocating for moves like the Weal deal (Folin/AMac (highly unlikely they can )/Raffl etc.

They already know that Myers is a potential top 4. Aube-Kubel is a bottom 6 player.

How? Even so, could he be a top 2? It can't hurt to learn more exactly what he is at the NHL level to better inform what you're doing.

How? By watching the player play. Plenty of information out there on Myers and Aube-Kubel's potential. Never an exact science but they have a pretty good idea.
