I can’t cheer for loses even if that means Chia gets tossed out of the office....so I’ll just allow natural selection to run it’s course while still cheering for this team

I don’t cheer for losses either. Though I do console myself with the idea that every loss brings needed change that much closer.

Ideally McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nuge would be top three centres. That’s as good or better than anybody.
- shack67

In a perfect world that’s what should have happened but due to some pure (frank)ery from our wonderful GM our wing depth is terrible....Puju isn’t ready to be a top 6 guy....Yamamoto isn’t either.....Rattie didn’t pan out....Lucic is a 4th liner at best....Reider has 0 goals and on and on it goes

I can accept a few losses in a row if I know that it'll result in Chiarelli losing his position. However, given the lack of action that came out of that losing streak, I can be confident that a losing streak like that isn't enough for Katz to do what everyone knows has to be done. As such, I have to assume that he and his cohort don't see things the same way and adapted my expectations to the point where losing has no benefit.
- MaximumBone

If and that’s a big if that anything happens it won’t be till the off season.....Katz had lots of chances to pull the trigger the year and had failed to do so....at this point the only way I see him getting fired is another non playoff year.....orrrr we hope the rumour of Nicholson going to the IIHF after the season comes true so the new guy can come in and hand Chia his walking papers....either way I don’t see nothing happening till after the season

If/when Sekera comes back, I’m betting one of either Petrovic or Manning (or both) are waived. Hopefully neither clear.

Furthermore, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Sekera bought out if he does struggle upon his return. Bear, Bouchard or Lagesson will get the call to the bigs.

Does the latter prediction make much sense considering my first prediction? No. Yet I could see it happening anyway.

- Wildschwein

It would be a miracle if someone took Manning on waivers .....Regardless of a trade or a buyout I don’t see Sekera on next years roster

A little bad luck drafting. Imagine if Yak had worked out. Or if Puljujarvi had gone to Columbus.
The McDavid draft was so strong and the Oilers had two extra picks in the first round until Chiarelli tossed them away. That’s the move that’s hurting them more than all his other deals.

Oh believe me I have said many times that Reinhart trade was his worst in a long line of bad moves and had set us back for sure....the development of Puji has been no good....he should have spent a season in the AHL but nope it’s been up and down the system for him

Brian Burke says anyone criticizing Puljujarvi should be shot. He thinks he’s going to be a star and there isn’t a team in the league that didn’t have him in the top three. He’s really young still.

He is only 20 I believe but he isn’t ready for the NHL yet but that’s fine....send him down for the rest of the year then see where he is at come training camp....perhaps worst case he isn’t ready till he is 22.....still young enough to have a long successful career

Well now I’m torn.

Squeaking in to a BOA, no matter how lopsided, would be pretty awesome. But it might also save Chiarelli’s job.

So torn...

therein lies the rub

i have no faith in nick/katz being able to look past some short term middling success as a wildcard playoff spot and still do the right thing.
i know that losing, missing and thus a guarantee firing might be the best going forward. but im physically unable to cheer against winning.
even in the really dark days where a top pick was a stake i couldnt.
im a flawed human

cept for the team picking there it seems.....

but yeah, im sure hes right that the vast majority did.
and regardless of how he looks in comparison to some of the guys around him (tkachuk at 6 is a slap in the face) its one of the few misses (thus far anyway) that i wont chirp chiarelli for. puju was a totally rational pick there.hopefully he figures it out

If we make a trade with you guys I’d love to find a way to get Puljujarvi in the deal.

I remember that interview with mcdavid and puljujarvi stuffing his face with pizza in the background his cheeks were snowballs, frank that was funny, right there I thought he wont amount to much.

A few on this board were advocating for Bennett that year. Thank Christ the Oilers chose Draisaitl.

That wasn't a very good draft, draisaitl looks to be the pick of the crop so far.

MacT is another guy who brought this team backwards with his moves which I won’t repeat here I talked enough about it on the last blog so it’s not surprising he would say something like that.....I loved the Oilers in the 80s but it’s 2019 now
