For me this season is over.
I'll watch but won't get angry. All focus is the possibility of what is to come as early as next season hopefully. I'll look forward to seeing Hart and Sanheim grow for the rest of the year.
I have to think though if next year is as bad that even MJL will be frustrated. - opeth_pa
I’ve been there for a while....highly disappointing year. Such a flawed team, it’s hard to get upset. What makes it worse is in today’s NHL most team transforming trades only happen in the summer and you kind of set your team up then. How bad a judgement did the Flyers management make last summer ? They actually had enough confidence to suggest a decent improvement! Any ways sitting in -25 cold...rain in California seems nice....
Go Eagles🦅

I dont think theres a player that can feel consistently good about their play. Some guys like sanheim hagg have had great moments but also growing pains. Hart outside of the 3 goal Carolina game and Columbus has been very good. Laughton had a good start but has fizzled some. - Tfaehner
I always look at as different kind of errors. Sanheim just made a bad decision with the puck. He will learn from that and benefit from the experience. It's the gliding, no effort and lack of awareness mistakes, that are mostly being made by veterans that really bother me.

Couturier has blown a bunch of coverages this season leading to goals against this season. He hasn't played to a Selke level this season. - MJL
Boy do I know it
And their top D guys Provy and Ghost have had lots of gaffs too, although they are still pretty young D
Very frustrating |

On a positive note, I sure love how quick Hart is. Love his glove and does a pretty decent job of not giving FAT juicy rebounds. - konalover711
I gotta admit...as a 20 year old he’s exceeded my expectations....considering the mess he’s had to play in front of.

Ghost and Provy have both really been bad....I’m hoping it’s confidence. They’ve both shown what they can do....just not this year.

Picking 10th to 1st is separated by 5 points it was 3 the other day. Still helpful.
Hughes at worst is skinner with McDavid skating.
We will probably end up picking 6 or 7 where I think the draft drops off significantly - Tfaehner
If it’s not Hughes not sure I get very excited knowing the other kids are another 2-3 years away from having an impact.

That's just one dude. We'll see. I would not be shocked to any prospect deemed a long term prospect moved this summer after the GM change. |

If hes ahl bound.. yeah maybe he finishes. But if he makes a NHL roster I doubt it. |

I won't be either but I probably won't be happy if they trade Farabee. I expect he'll sign after his sophomore year. |

Kakko is not playing against juniors competition. Hes in a men's league dominating. |

Would love for the Flyers to have a top pick where their is no "so and so may be a better player by this date"

I mean Hughes and kakko both look to be really good NHL players. Hughes skating is top 3 in the NHL from day 1. Kakko has great hockey IQ and 2 way sense. Putting up really good offensive numbers in a men's league. |

Not to say he wouldn’t be ready...a lot of these kids are. I just look forward to the days where we are debating the Flyers as a legit Stanley cup contender. Not about another high draft pick.

Hughes's skating it's so good it negates his size completely. Yes, he is only 5'10 168 lbs, but I would expect in a 2-3 years he will be 5'11 175-180 which puts him around Marner's current size.
Then you have Hughes only major flaw, his commitment to play defense, which is completely teachable. Even if he becomes average defensively at the NHL level his offensive game is too strong that he will be spending more time with the puck.
Both Hughes and Kakko are considered scorers, but it depends what you value more. The quick and deadly accurate wrister or the one-timer/slapshot.
Both are great passers and have strong ability to find open teammates with hockey IQ off the charts.
I would take either or both, but once in a lifetime skating ability to go with elite offensive skills I will never pass up. |

I don't know squat about either player. So let me get this straight, Hughes is similar in size to players like Marner and Gaudreau and has elite skating and offensive skills? I could care less about how small he is, I'm in.

Exactly. We knew Hakstol didn't stand a chance because Fletcher will get his guy. Fletcher also didn't draft a single player so he's not tied to any of these kids.

Better skating than both those players. Imagine McDavid with less break away speed but more shiftiness. |

The truly great players can just play at the highest level effortlessly.
Would Hughes have qualified for the exceptional talent tag if he was in juniors? |

I am NOT calling Hughes the next Matthews, just using it as a comparison because they both took similar paths. Of course I know some dummy will come along and tell me how I said Hughes is Matthews, but hey can't change stupid.
Here is a stat comparison if anyone is worried about his "stats":
Age 15
Hughes: 80 GP 58-101-159 (Toronto Midgets) 1.987 ppg
Matthews: 48 GP 55-45-100 (Arizona Midgets) 2.083 ppg
Age 16
Hughes: 27 GP 21-33-54 (USNTDP) 2.000 ppg

Hughes: 24 GP 13-35-48 (USDP U17) 2.000 ppg
Matthews: 24 GP 12-21-33 (USDP U17) 1.375 ppg
Hughes: 36 GP 27-41-68 (USDP U18) 1.888 ppg
Matthews: 20 GP 12-5-17 (USDP U18) 0.850 ppg
Hughes: 6 GP 5-10-15 (WHC-17) 2.500 ppg
