I'm thinking what he meant is he would accept if Hughes was a faster Jeff skinner to enter the league instead of drafting a project. As good as frost farabee may be they ate projects cause they took years to make the NHL. At least I think that's what he meant. - Tfaehner
If that is what he meant then I apologize, but I can only go by what is written and what it is replying to. |

You don't know who Sean Day is? The 3rd round draft pick by the Rags...he was given exceptional status after McDavid. It didn't look too good with that decision then or now. - Glak18
I believe there were also questions regarding his overall effort/competiveness in Juniors that hurt his development and stock. |

NO, you called them projects by calling Hughes a project. Just because YOU don't think Hughes is good enough to be in the category of those players that's fine, but that doesn't make Hughes any less of a player.
Remember 5 minutes ago you had to google who Sean Day was, now you think you have the ability to evaluate talent for a prospect? Yeah Hughes offers very little....you should be a scout. - Glak18

THAT is funny.
AND I hated Lucic, he was a throwback to another age..
When Shawn Antoski would have ended his career! Psych, Antoski was an awful goon.
Maybe Brashear?
Does anyone remember the McSorley baseball swing at Brashear?
Hope that dude finds peace sometime.
EDIT: I hope McSorley finds peace, and I hope Brashear is enjoying retirement |

Is Hughes in the NHL next year? He looked undersized in the WJC. Kid has the talent but not sure he's physically mature enough yet. |

Let's beat a dead horse. He is small. But hes a top 3 skater in the NHL from the second he steps on the ice. He will have no problem just like gaudreau kane marner etc have no problem. |

Elias Pettersson wasn't physically mature enough to play last year nor is he this year, but he is loaded with skill. He has been manhandled at times, been injured at least twice, maybe 3 times this year, but how many Flyer fans wish they had him? |

Flyers tend to draft safe, physically mature players that have a more balance game without any exceptional traits....Flyer fans "Why do we draft these kids if they are going to take 5 years to develop?"
Player available with exceptional skill...."Too small, doesn't play defense, he will be a bust".

Not that your comment is directed at me, but I certainly never alluded to any of that. I merely posed a question. I'd love to have his skillset in this team, I just don't know if he's physically ready for an 82 game schedule against grown men. |

Only thing to understand is neither Day nor Veleno should of been given exceptional status, but they were. Mistakes were made and the board became extra cautious to never have it happen again. - Glak18
what is the criteria for exceptional status? curious |

JvR forget about it
Simmonds also
Couts as you mentioned
Very tough to watch - Marc D
Imagine if any of these floaters (I'm looking at you Jake), were ever held accountable as youngsters/rookies? Bad habits are ingrained behaviors, which can be changed at early onset. If left unpunished, why would a player change their habits?

My understanding is no different than that of a gifted student. Doesn't mean they will become the brightest or the best, but at the current stage they are at it would be more beneficial for them to have a tougher challenge.
I don't feel either Day nor Veleno were that vastly superior to the others around them to make the jump. As for the others at the time, Tavares/McDavid/Ekblad, were just too far above the others their age that it had to be done. |
