Moose are pretty scarce in the Cariboo these days but 10-15 years ago they were everywhere. The Cariboo's habitat is changing and the wolves are out of control.

The moose really didnt show up until the 80's here. Over harvest in forestry was what brought in the moose. All the clear cut re-gen came in with Aspen, Poplar and Alder which is their prime forage. Now the pine beetle and fires are bring back the old grassland habitat in the south. That was formally elk country before the die off two centuries ago. The elk are coming back too.

I've never had elk but I've only ever heard good things from people i know in AB that hunt them. Of all the wild animals I've had I have to say though that Bison is the best. Unfortunately the population has been ravaged by anthrax and they haven't let people hunt them for a while now. They used to do a lottery for who got to hunt them every year, my dad is a big hunter and years ago he got drawn twice in the span of like 5 years so we had lots of bison meat for a long time, he still has the head of one of them hanging in his house, much to my moms disgust

Bison steaks and burgers are 10-20x what beef steaks and burgers are with 1/10th the fat.

If you're talking cost, I don't pay for bison at restaurants usually, it's always massively overpriced
