I dont think they can afford him either way. Unless he signs for under 5.5. I dont see that - Fakepartofme
I don't see it either. His play this year certainly doesn't stand up to his projected cost (even at the haircut rate of 5.5).

Oh so now you can see into the future? You know what our prospects will turn into? Well do tell.
Gards is gone, so it really matter to me.
Has he improved this year, ya...finally...but his lack of IQ in his own end, still eye opening.
He'll help the leafs at times this year and hurt them at others.
But to say the leafs have no good replacements in the pipeline is foolish. Next season lili or someone else could step in. I wouldnt mind another season of lili in the ahl, but who knows what will happen in camp or the off season. - Fakepartofme
Nope. But based on how i've seen it takes for a D prospect to play in non sheltered mins? Yeah, I don't see Lil or Sandin being ready for that next year or after that. Dermott is in his second season and still hasn't seen anything above 3rd pairing sheltered mins.
The Athletic has written a ton of good pieces on the Leafs Marlies prospects...Writers who's job is to scout them. They say the same thing...both are excellent prospects but we are a ways away from them being impactful in the NHL. |

he's been a lot better recently but he started the season playing like poop. he's probably their 3rd best dman - daeth
Yeah he has been average this season.
Slaavin and Faulk have been pretty fantastic. Pesce seems to always be consistently good as well. |

Dermott hasnt completed a full season yet. Hasnt played 82 games
Both (lili and sandin)need more time, but still have plenty of time to improve before next season. So too early to say anything. Although i believe dubas will want sandin to have at least another full year before any nhl time.
Oh and the athletic writers for the leafs, are writers or bloggers not scouts.
They have just as much insight as any writer on sportsnet or tsn...in fact most come from there.

lol.
huh? Sorry man I disagree with you completely.
Plenty of their writers have spent decades covering hockey wether it be certain teams or scouting them through the minor ranks. and Yes, you are wrong about that. Plenty of their writers scout for their own articles.
SN and TSN articles tell you what hockey DB tells you. They don't cover to even a fraction of what the Athletic covers. Video and analysis, statistical analysis, you name it. Actually go and read their articles before you start spewing bull poop.
Anyone with a subscription to Athletic will tell you SN and TSN suck compared to them. |

Oh for sure. Even worse than Gardiner would.
He takes nights off and his work ethic is questioned.
Its the same poop we hear about Karlsonn. Apparently he sucks because he is a puck mover and happens to give the puck away sometimes. What would you rather have? Someone who always knocks it off the glass and have the other team possess it and regroup? Thats a (frank)ing giveaway right there. - Santo_44
It's not just that. People can say that they're good defensively because they get the puck out and in the other teams end all you want, but that doesn't stop them from being turnstiles in their own end and not help at all.
Because no matter how good someone is at moving the puck, there's still gonna come times when you get stuck in your own end. And when they are, they're useless. Which perfectly describes both Gardiner and Karlsson.
Offensively, Karlsson is fantastic obviously. Defensively? Noooooope. |

Wait.
So in the first paragraph you say they are good because they are good at getting the puck out and into the other teams end.....but the second paragraph you said they are useless when they are stuck in their own end....
....
Don't you want a player that can get the puck out when you are stuck in your own end? |

Does that player also qualify for 30 of top 50 mislays of the year? - walshyleafsfan
Nope. Not even close actually.
The odd mistake comes with the way they play. Which helps teams win hockey games.
There is a reason players like Gardiner and Karlsonn are going to get huge pay days and the likes of Paul Martin and Alzner are gone. |

Same sh!t different pile.
The leafs writers for athletic are not scouts. Their writers, they of course research their own work as theyre suppose to. But they dont know anymore than any other writer for the most part. They have same info available to them as any other in the biz.
Ive read them, so stop pretenting like you know anything. Like most sports writers they have hit or miss articles.
Its not the end all be all.
Anyway, this bores me.
Moving on.
Cheers. |

by my calc he would need 17 points in 38 games.
i would say yes
Based on his first 2 seasons if he scores at those rates that would be 28 points in the 38 games
I suspect his luck will shift and he will score a bunch at a time. |

Honestly, i really dont think ownership and upper management has any clue what they're doing.
I cannot believe chia still has any type of job in nhl management |

He's playing some good hockey now and he's skating better every game. Only a matter of time until he starts scoring. |
