Well of course. I've played and coached hockey and I was never an avid scorer. And impacting the game can be done in many ways. But goals also cant be discounted to nothing. Goals win games. And theres not that many players who consistently pot 25-30. Especially not on this roster.

Seriously question for anyone, do you think it's possible to get 2-3 point game and have a bad game? Now can you get 0 points and have a good game?

Say a player averages 16 minutes a game over 82 games (1,312 minutes played in a season). A guy scores 30 goals in a year...WOW amazing not many players do that now. Let's assume on every one of those goals he has a good shift, avg 45 secs a shift. That's 22.5 minutes total.

1,312 minutes played total in an 82 game season.
22.5 minutes known good shifts for 30 goals.

Seriously someone looks at stats and sees 30 goals, damn that player is good, but

I’m not a huge fan of either, but it isn’t just Simmonds vs JVR, even though they are by and large playing the same role.

You can see it as either Simmonds or JVR + what Simmonds brings in a trade

If enough teams get in on him at the deadline, you can get a (1st round +) and still have a player with comparable value. If anything, you’re generating additional assets without much dropoff, if any, in production.
