That's my problem I don't care about his point production, I care about all the other things that hurt a team...floating, no defense, no effort. I would take a 15 goal scorer who doesn't turn the puck over (name of the game is to score goals, but also keep them out) and tries to be involved in the game. If you find scoring a goal every once in awhile with the expense of costing your team in other ways then this is the type of season you should expect every year.

You also don't make the playoffs if your highest paid players are scoring 15 goals...you still need players who can score

That's fair. As long as he scores at a decent pace it's manageable for me. Frustrating, but manageable. If the offense disappears he's useless.

All Coots has to do is score a goal off his leg and that defense stuff won't matter.
- Glak18

You continue to ignore my questions about what Simmonds has been doing this season that makes him so much better. He isn't scoring or doing any of the other stuff that has made him successful in the past and yet you keep skewering JvR for the same things

So 30 goal scorer means they are great no matter what?
- Glak18

That's not what I said... Anyways, all players have bad shifts and games (even 30g scorers). If you're going to pick someone apart you'd have to perform fairly detailed analysis on multiple facets of the game. Also, you'd probably want to compile multiple seasons, so at least 2-3 * 1,312. I'd be willing to bet that consistent 25-30g per year players have more positive shifts than negative. I haven't done a breakdown on JvR and even if I were to begin, we'd still have to lay ground rules for what constitutes a good shift versus a bad shift... a nasty rabbit hole and I'm not getting paid to do it I'd probably start to look at https://hockeyviz.com/wowyMaps/ for at least a high level overview of how players fair with JvR and without him in general, start to look at more individual numbers, and tape. Has anyone done such extensive research? No, it's easier just to rip players for floating on one shift(s). Generally speaking, players putting up 25-30g and 60+ points are driving play and desirable on any team in the NHL.

See....If it works for JvR then it can work for Simmonds, now you are getting it.

Forsberg has 18 goals already
Johanson has 40 pts
They also have 2 goaltenders who can make saves so you know

With the prospects they already have and the picks they will likely get from Simmonds I think they'll be able to move up if they so choose. Wouldn't shock me to see them go up in the draft after one of the top three.

Hmmm conflicted. Happy to see Simmonds raise his trade value, happy for NoPa to score and JVR to look like he isn’t dead. BUT WTF! Loosing is all we have to look forward to!!

Wowy is a really bad stat and an awful way to look at and compare players. It's not really that difficult to analyze JVR as a player.

Yep issue at Wings game. He said cut the pony tail of a Lyle Thompson. Very bad move.

That is my whole point I had to begin with...there are WAY more factors involved in declaring a player good or having a good game than just scoring a goal. Looking at basic stat lines are for casual fans so they kind of know who is good and who isn't.

As long as those analytics aren't based off, this player is good with this player...because shot attempts.

Yeah if in any way you consider JvR driving play whats so ever this year or last or the year before that then you clearly have never watched him play or your analytics are tainted.
