We are lightyears better than we were last year. We were never expected to be a playoff team this year. We have an arse load of first round picks. We have 3 of the best young players in the league. Our dead weight will be gone in the next 2 years - lulags
Botts’ goal should be to go into next season without Sobotka, Scandella, Hunwick, Sheary, Wilson. Along with Pominville and Moulson’s salaries off the books that could be a lot of money to play with. Retain money on some of those salaries just to move them if we have to. Okposo is likely here to stay. Thanks again Murray |

Bury him in Rochester for two years and trade his deal to Seattle.
Or hope you can LTIR him at some point - sbroads24
You wonder how much that would really affect our chances for the playoffs.
How many more goals is cj gonna have ?
1 every four games. So maybe 9?
Hes not gonna be with eichel.
He still is gonna be playing with subpar players and a subpar head coach
Even okposo is gonna have a few more over the next 35 games |

Has anyone sat back and realized that this might be the worst season we have in the next 5-10 years ? Botts might be thinking this is his last shot to draft high. You’re telling me next year we won’t be even better with Eichel, Reinhart, Dahlin, Mittelstadt, Thompson another year older ? Why not throw in the towel one last season and potentially grab another game changer to add to that list (as well as Skinner if he resigns). We are not winning the cup this year. But next year we’ll have money to spend in free agency and a full stocked prospect cupboard. We have all the assets in the world to make this team a perennial cup contender it’s all up to Botts making smart moves in free agency and going 50% on our first rounders over the next two years. - Pegullaville
Respectfully, a lot of fans are literally sick and tired of "next year" talking points.
I was a fan of the Bills for a long long time.
Once it got to 15 straight years, I was done with them.
Thank God that I did because it only carried on longer.
Now, I have no emotional interest in the Bills any longer.
If they moved, I might even celebrate.
They have stolen from this city's taxpayers and fans for far too long.
I'll be frank, the NFL and its players disrespectful behavior played a part in turning me away from the NFL and the Bills.
Anyway, the cliched next year....next year...next year talk for fans like me has worn out its welcome.
I'm an Indians fan
I'm a Sabres fan
I was a Bills fan
Forgive me if I am sick and tired of hearing those 2 words, "next year".
I don't have many more "next years" and nor do others.
I'm not in the habit of rewarding failure with my hard earned money, emotions, nor my attention.
I'm sure that I am not the only 'fan' that feels this way.
Patience is waning. |

+ Stone
+ a center (Duchene, Hayes, Nelson, trade)
Skinner-Jack-Sam
Nylander-Duchene-Stone
CjSmith-Mitts-Thompson
Girgs-Larsson-Okposo/E Rod
*I’d hang on to Sheary though & play him on line2
Gives Nylander/Olofsson a little more time in the AHL
And Sheary should be able to score enough with those linemates that we can get a good return for him at next year’s trade deadline |

What would it take to rid ourselves in a trade?
Our 8th over pick this year?
2 million a year for 4 years retained
The expansion draft is 2 years away. - Boss34
More than would be worth it. Best case is retaining half his salary for the remainder of the deal. He's a $3M player still, maybe. Ok, maybe not, but at least he's not 2 and a half times overpaid at that point. It would take an ok prospect and a 2nd for a lesser salary dump for maybe 2 more years after this year. Like a Berglund. |

That’s completely fair. The ineptitude of prior management groups and poor drafting has gotten us to this point. I really hope you along with the rest of the Buffalo fan base gets to see a championship. If the Sabres make the playoffs this year it’s not like I won’t root for them. I just wouldn’t mind us selecting high one last time either. I will be the first person advocating for a deep playoff run next year. |

You have to just forget about this game as quickly as possible. Everything that could've gone wrong, did. Including goals we scored that don't normally go in like the first one, and goals that should've gone in but didn't. And as far as goals against, 2 deflections, sleeping defensemen, Risto handling the puck that stuck on some water right after intermission, and McDavid was off to the races, Scandella poopting the bed and pitching it right to Lucic. I bet at least a third of us could score on that shot.
The game tonight is very reminiscent of the 9-2 game against Ottawa earlier in the year. Everything went in in that game.
This is the epitome of trying to use stats to learn anything about a single game. And failing spectacularly. Risto had a CA of 10, the only player with more ice time, a whole 4 seconds, with a higher CA, was Dahlin who had a CA of 18. CA/60 and Risto is doing great against most everyone else on the team. Sobotka was the worst with Bogo hot on his heels. Not a single player under 51.28(Bogo) in CF%; Jack led the way with 80, players who had somewhat rough games were: Risto at 76.19, and Scandella at 75. The best player on the ice Dahlin had 62.5 for a negative CF% Rel of -6.35. Risto was out there for 21 shots for and 6 against. Mitts, Thompson and Sheary got absolutely caved in 5 for and 8 against for both Mitts and Tage, and Sheary was 8 and 8. Bogo must've played a lot with them because he brought up the rear with 8 and 14. Those were the only 4 players that were even or worse.
The only thing that really lines up is Bogo. |

And the Sabres are now playing as they should. Have they even been able to win 2 in a row since the big 10 game winning streak? And how long before they are back in the familiar basement? There is not one area of the game that this team is playing well right now.... |
