I had given up on BOGO but he has been very good this year. His partner for most of last night (McCabe) had a rough night.
- turbo044

You're right

Bogo has been a pleasant surprise this season.

Lsst night was rough though- own goal

Im not poopting on Risto because Dahlin is great, Risto wasn't good before Dahlin got here too.

At that level of ice time, it's pretty clear who belongs and who doesn't. Cause those guys are either taking advantage of that ice time and producing or they are getting caved in.

I get that him being in that role isn't his fault and i can even be convinced that in the right role he's good and has a future here. But the amusing part for me is those who think he is still succeeding in his current role.

If he was top pair caliber we are a playoff team

- Sabresfan-365

The thing is even if you take away 3 minutes of ice time from Risto that's still borderline top pairing minutes. Dahlin isn't at the level where he can play 25 a night for an entire season yet either. The biggest problem is the lack of depth. Once Pilut gets a full season(I think they're being cautious with him and Dahlin because they just don't play as many games in Sweden and they're not nearly as physical as the NHL) and hopefully Guhle, though I am getting a bit worried that he's Pysyk 2.0 which would be fine, but he was looking like he was going to be very good. The minutes will be able to be spread a bit more evenly.

Regardless of experience, the Sabres are still a very young team.

Did you watch last nights game?

Something major needs to be done

Risto is the biggest tradable asset they have other than Reinhart and the picks.

They aren't going to get a player that can contribute by moving Scandella and Okposo (they need to go but let's face it they're stuck with them)

- Stripes77

If you trade Risto,
our RH defensemen will be:
Bogosian
Nelson

That’s it

Now u could move Dahlin to the right,
but the only person Bogosian has looked good paired with has been Dahlin

Trading Risto for RNH fills one hole,
but creates another

And we have Mitts who will eventually fill 2C
Top4 RH defensemen are hard to find
We have Borgen & Laakksonen coming,
but they aren’t ready yet
And we don’t know if either will get to that level

If you’re gonna make a hole by trading Risto,
2 things:
-better have a plan to bring in another quality RH defenseman somehow
-the guy we are acquiring better be worth it- and by that i mean, Taylor Hall “great” and not RNH “good”

Mark Pysyk was the best defensemen in the NHL according to those advanced stats!!!

His averaged forced extra skating strides on a forward wearing an even number was THE BEST IN NHL HISTORY!!!!!!

I’m pretty sure you can’t move the SJ nor the StL pick until the conditions are met.

Edit: They can trade the picks back to SJ or StL.

- dadeadhead

Link?

Pretty sure they can trade those picks,
the conditions just come with them

If not,
they can still trade their pick at least

Maybe?
But it’s far from ideal

Trading Risto puts 5 LH defensemen in the lineup
And most likely separates Dahlin & Bogo

Again... like with you know who...
I’m not saying don’t trade him
But you’ve gotta have a plan in place once u do so

Planning to play a LH guy on the right side,
who doesn’t play much on the right side,
sounds a lot like hoping a LW can move back to Center & hold down the fort till Mitts is ready

Who ever said Mark Pysyk was among or one of the “best NHL” defensemen?

This is not directed solely at you, but I understand people who have 0 interest or even make fun of what some of that crowd says, but that particular thing was never said by anyone.

I don’t think anyone ever called him even a #2 D man let alone one of the best

There's a guy who genuinely believed (or still does) the answer to the leafs top pair issues was a Marincin-Franson pairing. So I wouldn't rule that out completely.

the only thing he got raw was something that should have been stuck someplace the sun doesn't shine. he set this rebuild back at least four years

Maybe not . Could have just stalled it for the right moment . Do I like what he did ? hell no . We ended up with Jack, Sam, and Dahlin. What would we have if it was done differently ? We don't really know .

This road trip will greatly determine whether or not they will have a chance in making the playoffs.

Simple answer no. 6 wins in 21 games should tell you everything. Anything short of another 10 game win streak the Sabres will be watching playoffs from the couch.

Hoping for the following...

Housley and the entire coaching staff gets the axe with Quenville or Gronborg coming in.
Scandella, Beaulieu and Sheary dealt at the deadline.
Pay to trade Okposo like immediately.
Possibly consider a trade of Ristolainen+ for Hamilton+.
Resign Skinner

We’d have a very competitive team.

GMTM spent two 2nd rounders on Hudson Fasching for God sake. Fasching wasn’t even that great of a prospect to be commanding that type of bounty in return. Not to mention a 1st on Lehner. Who was the 3rd string goalie in Ottawa at that time. He did send the rebuild back quite a bit. I’d say at the very least 3 years.

Dahlin is JB’s pick. If you want to play it like TM made them suck but then you can make the same argument for Regier.

McCabe is a 5-6 defenseman. Having him fill in on his off side for a top 4 defenseman would be the biggest mistake by any professional sports team.

Jbotts deserves all the credit for quietingly tanking for dahlin. He did everything right, without destroying the future for years to come.

Only problem with that is CAR supposedly wants a forward

I’m assuming that means we’d have to give up Sam, not Risto
Can’t imagine they’d do something like Tage+
And I’m thinking Mitts is probably off limits

Looking at our defense heading into next year

1. Dahlin
2.
3. Risto
4. Pilut
5. McCabe
6. Bogo

This is a pretty solid core.
I still believe risto is a 2nd more then a 3rd d.

So we needs a 2/3 defenseman?

I'm I being a complete homer or is this a solid nhl defense core.

Its scandella, bowl u, hunwick or Nelson as a reserve

I don't think Risto would be bad if he could focus at being a stay at home defenseman.
- sabreadvocate1

Lol ya let’s make a damn good offensive minded defenseman into a stay at home defenseman

Scandella has one season left. So he’d be on that list. Ristolainen is easily number 2 in terms of depth.
