What’s wrong with Haag? I much prefer him over any year of Matt Carle weakest shot of any NHler ever.
- bird_dog_pa

No reason why we need to bring up Matt Carle but I'll just say this. While he certainly did not possess much of a point shot, Carle was an elite defenseman at 5 on 5 play. Including leading all NHL defenseman in ES points one season, leading the entire NHL in plus games. Adding a Matt Carle to this team would greatly improve this team. I like Haag, who is nice player but limited. Carle as a player was much, much better than Haag will likely ever be. Carle is a player in a long line of players who were very much underappreciated. He was really, really good as a Flyer.

This is uninformed. Carle actually had better numbers without Pronger. In the season I mentioned, Pronger missed 32 games. Carle finished in the top 10 in Norris trophy voting.

How? It is quite simple tbh. Guy played above his skill level due to pronger and then when Pronger was done, he was exposed. He certainly got more flak than he deserved but he wasnt that good of a Dman. Same thing can be said about AMac. He gets a lot of Flak but he isnt as bad as people make him out to be. He is a decent Dman who was overpaid. Im sure he will get picked up when his contract ends somewhere else in the NHL for less than 5 mill

With the power of the internet and a simple Google search, you'll find out how wrong you are. Numerous articles were written about how Carle wasnt any good without Pronger was complete nonsense. Carle was very good here. With and without Pronger.

Stats be damned I just was never a fan and watched him enough to pretty much remain neutral on him. Didn't hate him and didn't love him just thought he was as vanilla as it gets. Carle would most definitely be the favorite whipping boy if he was playing on this team.

To each his own. I guess its a sports fan phenomenon to not like a player who is a really good player for the team.

Defense is traditionally a more vanilla position. Unless youre a player who throws big hits or are flahy offensively... if you’re not making mistakes, you aren’t really noticeable. This team could really use a defenseman who just plays good sound mistake-free defense.

Or not really be a fan of a player who has his fair share of unforced turnovers, not very strong on the boards and had a weak shot. It wasn’t his fault he got PP time. I wouldn’t go so far to call him a really good player for the team.
I never hated MC.

Carle was extremely good with the puck and was solid defensively. Which is why he had elite number at ES. When he was on the ice, the Flyers controlled play. He was one of the highest point producing defenseman in the league at ES and led the NHL one year in plus games. You're assessment of Carle as a player is not accurate, though you're certainly entitled to your opinion. It is true that he did not shoot the puck well and did not produce points on the PP although he moved the puck well.

Dale Weise walks into a bar and approaches the manager. “Excuse me, good sir,” the horse says, “are you hiring?”
I just lost my job.
The manager looks the horse up and down and says, “Sorry, pal. Why don’t you try the circus?”

The horse nickers. “Why would the circus need a bartender?”

A horse walks into a bar.

The bartender asks, "Why the long face?"
