I think what's really toxic in Edmonton is the media culture more than the fans- though they get riled up by said media. Unlike Toronto where there's at least a somewhat greater appreciation for skill, perceived hard work is the pinnacle of fan appreciation in Edmonton.
You can see it in how Sportsnet and all the broadcasters talk about guys like Lucic and Hendricks and whatnot. Even the slightest positive thing they do is highlighted en masse while similarly minor but more effective "micro-plays" are completely ignored with players like Schultz, Petry and Eberle.
In conjunction with that, you have a posse of raging idiots (Spector and I think it's Matheson or Staples but might be someone else) spearheading a print media culture of derision and tearing skilled players apart for the tiniest of flaws. This part Toronto has in spades.

This I will agree on....could you imagine how bad it would be in Edmonton if it had as many people as Toronto? Also I’ll add Terry Jones to your list of media types....he isn’t sports net but he gets a lot of readers in Edmonton and he does the same poop as everyone else.....then he calls out the fans for wanting Chia fired then next thing you know he is writing about how Chia should be fired
