Blue line needs help, no question, but on average the Leafs have shown us a game that's Ill-suited to the playoffs and they often show that whenever they play a team that has a playoff style game. Hell, they're often sketchy even when they win games. That's not merely because of the blue line. My fear is that as a result they will basically be regular season giants and playoff busts...the Toronto version of the San Jose Sharks. As for Jake I see a guy, on every shift, who looks and plays defence like a converted forward...which he is. Dump the puck in his corner, lean on him and he becomes the gift that keeps on giving. He's 29, that's NOT gonna change. He reminds me of when I played beer league hockey and we had to stick a forward on D because it's Friday night and half our team is working the night shift. |

the issue isn't the defense as much as it is the forwards not playing hard enough.
apart from hyman, tavares, marner and in general the 4th line (lindholm has been very good imo, brown ok, goat ok, moore good etc.), the 2nd and 3rd fw lines are not bringing a consistent enough game with enough defensive awareness. they're just too easy to play against.
that goes for Matthews, Kapanen, Johnsson, Marleau, Kadri, Nylander.
Seems a little line switching might be best - and if that doesn't work, see whether a trade (probably Johnsson or Nylander best option) is available.
I would like to see:
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Kadri - Matthews - Kapanen
Marleau - Nylander - Brown
Lindholm - Goat - Johnsson
Maybe with a different setup, both Matthews and Nylander as well as Kadri can catch a break and play some better games. I don't think you can expect for Marleau (although always responsible), Brown or Johnsson to make a true difference on their own. |

I don't understand why you'd replace Kadri with Nylander at center. Especially because it's a notoriously more difficult position and the person suggesting to do that has been consistently berating Nylander for a while now |

Because kadri did so well last time tried to make him a winger.
Because nylander and Matthews don’t have chemistry together |

Dude, it is like the hotel scene from Fear and Loathing in here... pure bedlam because Jake played a couple of bad games. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
Tell the peanut gallery that even the Legendary Chara has had some bad games in his career. |

No way leafs trade for this loser. Lazy. Makes too many boneheaded plays. The bad outweighs the good he brings - burn
Right? We need an NHL Center Ice intervention here:
