5 years? We could just sign any average RD and be fine.
He sucks at defense. That’s not hard to replace.
On offense Dahlin will take his PP1 time, and Pilut will be on the second unit.
Risto is legit good in one single area, when the puck is already in the offensive zone.
He’s terrible in his end and below average in transition.
His physicality is nice and fun to watch. I can live without it - sbroads24
Dude... u wanted us to sign Shattenkirk! 😂
Come on now

Beady was right when he said Risto was Dion 2.0. Alike Dion, Risto should not be in a top pairing role. However, if he is on the 2nd pair and isn’t playing as many heavy d-zone minutes, then he can be effective. Risto’s advanced statistics says he’s a bad player, but I don’t know many d-men that are in the top 20 in scoring and lead the league in hits. Pilut is good in possession exits, first passes, and possession entries and can help mitigate Risto’s mistakes. At a $5.4M salary, and the fact he’s a RHD (tough to find) he’s a great fit with the core. Sure can we get a great forward for him ? Probably. If we trade Risto we spend the next 5 years looking for a RHD to fill that spot. - Pegullaville

Here's the problem, and why the advanced stats don't like him.
Think about what hits means for a second. Sure, correctly timed/well placed hits can impede another teams offence, but if your greatest on ice impact is total hits per shift, it means that most of the time you are out there, you don't have the puck. Hence the puck possession numbers being not so good.
If Ristolainen's offense was a nice split between PP and 5v5, you could live with this. But it's not, and it hasn't been his entire career. If you removed top pp minutes from his total (and they will by next year at the latest) you would see a major drop in his numbers. |

Just remember, we never argued about him wanting Alzner (who’s literally in the AHL) he only suggested it
Could you imagine that Alzner/Risto pair right now? |

That’s why the Oilers felt the need to trade Hall for Larsson. That’s why Zaitsev got a 7 year $32M deal last year with the Leafs and Hainsey is playing top pairing minutes. 28 teams in the NHL are looking for a decent RHD. Winnipeg, Nashville, Carolina, and maybe Anaheim are the only three/four teams I can think off the top of my head that have at least 1 above average RHD. When Dahlin can handle more defensive minutes you’ll see the true value of Risto when he’s able to play more in the offensive zone. |

We are dangerously close with Scandella but yeah, woof. Also...
Pilut has 3 primary assists at 5v5 in 14 games
Ristolainen has 4 in 46 |

Bc i didn’t argue for him to be here
Certainly not like u did for Shattenkirk
But then again,
u apparently have selective memory where u like to try & put words in my mouth
I argued for Alzner?
For page after page... day after day...
like u did for Shattenkirk?
Ok... prove it |

It’s amazing that our 5.4 mil vet needs a Swedish UFA to make his underlying numbers look semi-competent

Risto is not perfect, but for his cap hit which looks better by the minute he is useful. Unless you play on Eichel’s wing then odds are you aren’t getting very much 5v5 production. Risto is as much a victim of our poor offensive cast since his rookie year as he has been the culprit.

RH defensemen are easily replaceable
Just like 2C
Just ask Berglund
He’s fast
And scored 17goals in 57games
We’ll be fine, don’t worry.... |

It’s getting worse. Are people under the impression he’s had a good season?
Because he had a highlight goal against San Jose and knows how to pass the puck to Eichel on the Pp? |
