yeah the only Rochester forward who looks anything close to a potential lock is CJ. That'd require a lot of overhaul for one summer - Sabresfan-365
they need to find a least one good player in FA.... and hope someone from Rochester steps up... (CJ and someone else).
There really is a lot of work to do here still.... Wanting to build though the draft is great but if that's the only way Botts is building this team we are in for a much longer rebuild. Hopefully he can pull off anything skinner type trade and we get lucky in FA, and find a 1st round gem...
I lot of what if's and hoping there.... NOT GOOD |

why would I trade with a division Rival?? they have nothing that I couldn't find someplace else. and Kadri is nothing special
Trying to Aquire Kadri, is costing us a defenseman, Im not helping Toronto win a cup in any way shape or form... - gordong
I can understand not wanting to trade within the division.. But you just told us that 7 players on our current roster need to go and we don't have much in the pipeline to replace so Where are you going to replace them? Through the draft? those picks take years to develop... you have to make some smart trades. I for one don't care if I trade with T.O if it benefits the Sabres... |

so you want to trade who for Kadri? So you rob Peter to play Paul... I assume your trading a defenseman for Kadri so now we have a hole on the defense... We cant keep making these move where we trade someone away and then trade for someone to replace him, it's getting us nowhere.
we had two NHL players on this roster that used to play here how much better would the team look with them on the 2nd line????
I get why they were traded but we got picks back, not 2nd line NHL players.... Blame management on that! |

Perhaps unpopular given the struggles but i'd give E-Rod another shot on line 3 next year.
His D-zone usage has gone up dramatically since last year. He's basically being used like Larsson which is questionable since the guys mostly know for offensive play.
I think once the third line looks like an actual scoring line rather than some make shift Sami Pahlsson tribute line, he'll start to produce again.
Something like Smith-Mittelstadt-Erod could work, assuming they get someone to take over 2nd line duties. - Sabresfan-365
Nothing against ERod, but he's in a big group of players that will need to show up to camp and win a job.
I agree on his usage, but it's a result of a big problem that they need to solve. Skinner and Sheary are terrible defensive players and they always have absurd zone starts. Larsson + the other line has to pick up the slack. It forces those lines to play too much.

They could use more two way talent. They've got their lines running on total extremes.
sheary-mitts-okposo were getting close to 0 dzone starts while line 3/4 were the opposite. |

I get what you are saying.
But we don't really need more picks right now, we need actual Talent. I would trade those first rounders right now for a #2 center and other needs...

I agree.... we need NHL players. Picks are years away, unless you get really lucky in the draft (with is usually not the case). So you're giving up what for Kadri?

I would give them a first rounder for him if they are just looking for a cap space.... Skinner was a 2nd and a poop prospect...

The drop from 1C to 2C is much larger than changing any Dman not named Rasmus. If BoGo or Marco go, the change for Beaulieu isn't that significant. None of those D players will change a game. A 2C can change the game. Sabres need a sniper or someone who can score. Not sure Kadri is the answer but his cap hit is worth a shot. He could be Mouslon or Skinner.
Toronto cannot keep the current signed players AND Marner, Matthews and Kapanen. I believe they would rather keep Kap over Kadri so he is the easy trade. It's pretty simple to me. Or Nylander has to go. I do have an issue with a division trade but the Sabres need to get better and improving the team is more important. Sabres are not winning the Cup this year, if Toronto does, good for our neighbors.
Bogo for Kadri, and if we have to toss in a 3rd rounder its done. No salary retention. Bogo will be gone in 2 years when the Sabres might have a shot at the Cup.
The argument that we cannot trade to a team to make them better because they might win the cup is silly, trades will never happen. |

pommer's gone, sheary and Sobotka have one more season...I have no problem with e-rod hanging in the bottom-six...gus and angry larry are rfa's with arb right's and it won't cost much to keep them for fourth-line duty...
i'm ok with some turnover and wouldn't lose any sleep if they jettisoned sheary and Sobotka, who combined with pommer leaving represent a $12M cap savings |

I think it's a big problem that needs to be addressed over the summer.
ERod is good defensively, but not a guy you want to lean on heavily in that role vs top lines.

I wonder what production he'd even have here though. He's been a product of environment to some extent. |
