People need to start using their brains, the leafs are not trading away a piece of their team while competing for a playoff spot. They are a contender, not a team out of the running for playoffs. They aren't subtracting.

My mistake it was Soderberg and it was a brutal play. Not just soft, but timid and full of panick. Losing Gardiner and adding some toughness would not be a bad thing. Every team in the NHL has a game plan against the Leafs. Run them at every opportunity. Ferland would be a great pick up in my opinion. - Canes have other d-men that could be acquired.

He got outmuscled, that's not his game. Not surprising at all. Imo people making too much of that play. Imo bigger issues was him not using speed to win that race so he doesn't have to battle soderberg. No one saying how weak doughty is after that play. It's exactly 100% the same play as gardiner the day before.

Leafs keep gardiner for the playoffs there is no question. Trading him weakens an already weak spot. It makes zero sense. Leafs add dmen, not take them away.... Let alone their 2nd-3rd best dman. He makes mistakes, no different than anyone else. His net benefit is still much higher than his negatives, by a significant margin.

I think a 1st and Johnsson would get it done, maybe toss in another mid-round pick or low-level prospect. And to acquire those two players, I'd do that deal. Again, both have a year remaining on their deals at very reasonable cap hits, so they're not your typical 'rentals,' i.e. wasted assets. And both are exactly the kind of player we sorely need.

Gardiner is a fack up, no doubt.
But the leafs arent subtracting. Gards will be staying unless hes traded for a player that dubas believes improves the team.
Due to money owed, i dont see overpaid-ander being traded before july 1st.
