I think Canucks right now have to be feeling pretty good where they are sitting same as the Habs.
In the summer both teams were being ripped and were sent to the dungeons by the hockey world. I remember in the summer having the debate that Montreal absolutely won the trade between Galchenyuk and Domi.
The thing is everyone myself included love taking the Armchair GM spot and thinking we are smarter than the guys actually doing the job.
I see almost everyday about how bad Granlund is. He is on pace for 12-15 goals , kills penalties and plays all forward spots for 1.5 mil. That my friend is a bargain.
Hutton is another one. He is quietly having a solid year with 5 goals 17 pts. Hits fights and is moving the puck well. His game is improving and he is only 25 .
People dislike Gudbrandson Sutter Markstrom but all in all the Canucks are playing good hockey and getting better.
I think if you asked anyone if they thought Canucks would have 48 pts in mid January would they consider it a success , I think most would say hell ya.
So when I think Mgmt hear move this guy, bring up this guy , sign him waive him , it all turns into white noise to ownership. - VANTEL

I believe most of my frustration with Benning had everything to do with the owner and very little to do with the former club President. They were trying to be competitive when they shouldn't have been IMO. But that's not the case anymore, they are in a building mode, which warms my heart - LeftCoaster
Benning will piss people off soon. Lots of talk about bringing in Hughes mid march for playoff push. I also think they atr going to make a big trade soon too |

I don't see any BIG trades happening, perhaps some more of the middling type such as the Leivo trade. I have my own reasons but I think Benning is pretty tepid when it comes to the playoffs this year. I don't think he's going to push for them but he's going to be all over changing up the defense.
I read Hughes team is sucking so they might actually sign him when his season is done but I don't think his game will have an immediate impact at the NHL level, he has a lot to learn when it comes to a structured NHL game. |

The reason I don't see any "big moves" is because the Canucks don't really have any good trade chips other than their first round pick and the kids that are untouchable.
I guess Tanev and Sutter have value, but not of the big-time caliber. |

Stone will re-sign in Ottawa if Duchene does, Panarin wants to be in a big American market I've read and Skinner is having a lot of success playing with Eichel, he'll re-sign there IMO. (frank) Ferland!!! |

Nothing of big value there, that's what I'm saying, none of that equates to a big trade, unless perhaps if you package Tanev and Sutter? You may get some good value. |

Oh I definitely think there's going to be some moves made, I think Pettersson changed the landscape for the organization, I just don't think it's for this year, next year they will want to push for the playoffs. |

I would be fine with signing a lower end free agent like Pirri, don't want big name signings yet. |

The organization has a lot of bodies already, I don't see any free agent signings, not to mention the owner might have Benning on a short leash for free agents after he's wasted millions on Eriksson, Gagner, Schaller, Beagle and MDZ. |
