Hayes off the list of targets because someone will massively overpay for a 6'5" center. And also because I really cant stand his face. |

Jesse Marshall with another excellent piece at the Athletic. Without getting into all the details, he feels the Pens would get a boost in 3rd line scoring if Brass were shipped out and replaced with Sheahan. |

Brass for Ferlund is a Rutherford type of trade. Rental for rental - no fleecing - both teams have reasons to make the move.
Even though I would like that deal, I would still do everything possible for the Brass trade to give us a guy under contract. We gave up some good future assets for Brass and its a lot more sustainable if we can get a few years of production from lost futures.
Example: a 1st round pick for Perron turned into 3 years of Hagelin turned into Tanner Pearson for 3 years. That's excellent asset management of essentially a single draft pick for a win now team. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Fair point, however.. Just because someone comes in as a rental doesn’t mean it needs to end that way (Evander Kane). I like Sheahan so I’m good with him at 3C, but if Sid or Geno miss time I think we’re screwed. I like the idea of having Sid, Geno, Spezza, and Sheahan. I think this could potentially be a strong fit for this season and possibly another |

Instead of us getting a new 3C we ship out Brass for a pick and use that pick as part of a bigger deal to bring in Hayes. Sheahan would stay and center the 3rd line. Same argument could be said for bringing in Ferland for Brass+. Is this good enough to bring us a cup? Idk. I just hope we don’t give up a ton unless it’s a sure thing. I like Brassard for Spezza because it’s low risk - WSCTeton17
Maybe I’m being braindead right now, but you’re saying we move Brass out to being in Hayes, yet have Sheahan play 3C?
Where is Hayes playing? |

I've seen the same outcome realized in multiple places. Mostly ppl comparing Sheahans stats last year while he was 3C to Brass' this year.
I'm not sure any of Sheahans play this year would lead me to believe it though. It'd be easy enough for them to try out. Put Brass on someones wing. |

I want Hayes to play with Malkin. I want him to help cover up for some of Geno’s lapses and flaws. I also don’t want to Brassard him and move him from 20 minutes a night down to 15-16.. also, I don’t want him to wear the number 19 |

1) we’ve already played with Brassard on the wing and rarely did it ever look promising 2) based off the practice lines it looks like they’re taking this approach 3) Brassard had a few glimpses last game, I think he doubles that up tonight before being traded this coming weekend |

It'd be more for testing Sheahans effectiveness at 3c than Brass' at wing.
They had Sheahan on Geno's wing at practice Thursday |

Sheahan played well with Kessel last season prior to acquiring Brass. He can be a 3C with skilled wingers. |

Believe me, I'm all for it if he can. I'm just not as sure as most people are around here. |

They had a nice little run before we traded for Brassard. I think Sheahan has played pretty well given his crappy role. He wasn't real good at the start of the season, but ever since I think he's been decent. He doesn't look all that comfortable at wing. I think he's a better center. Hard to expect too much out of him considering his linemates. |

No way Cullen should be playing center over Sheahan. |

When are we trading Brassard? What a disappointment. Unfortunately. I liked the guy. |

This was only with Guentzel as the other winger, which isn’t ideal. Sheahan has good chemistry with Guentzel, Hornqvist, Sheary, Rust, Wilson, Grant. I wonder how he’d do with Simon. Either way I like Sheahan, always have. I still think Spezza solves all the problems |

Exactly this, everyone craps on Sheahan on here, yet the guy puts up fairly similar numbers to Brass' during his tenure here, and has never pouted about how he's deployed...unlike the princess Brass who whines the minute he's not playing on the top 2 lines, then the HC/GM cowtow to him and put him on Sid's wing and he still stinks...I'll be glad when he's gone, albeit bummed we wasted assets to acquire him in the first place. |

If Sheahan is the Pens 3C, they have no shot against Tampa or Toronto. |

I think all hockey players are tough. Even if their game is all skill and finess and they shy away from giving hits , they've still played a very tough and rough sport their whole life. Not to me ntion how much of it/often. |

That's not how I remember it. Remember thinking Sheahan was getting the shaft because of Brass because he and Kessel were clicking and producing. |
