I didn't mention a buyout. I said there wasn't a big difference in trading Weise and retaining salary vs. sending him down to the AHL - wcorvette

You got it. The spoiled mentality. Stats are EASY to look at and the incredibly lame excuses to justify poor performance.
I worked with a kid who kept messing up his projects end of last year, his reasoning? He was tired...seriously he said he was tired and that's why he couldn't get things done. You get paid to do your work, not to just show up. He also complained a lot how working 40 hours a week was exhausting. Well he should be well rested now that he has no job. - Glak18
That's ridiculous, rightfully fired. I myslef am a millenial but I don't see the entitled garbage in my group of friends nor elsewhere. Most friends work 40-50 hours a week with no complaints, normal day job if you will. I feel like a lot of the "entitled" garbage comes from the Twitter sphere and trash news outlets like Yahoo news. |

I agree, the level of play in the regular season is much higher than in pre season which means he should get up to speed quicker, not slower. Can you comprehend that? How about comprehending that he has played 18 games and has scored 1 goal? Not complicated. He acted like an entitled douche bag and held out and got the big money. Now it's time to produce. No BS excuses. - MJL
Idk if that logic exactly makes sense but he for sure needs to produce, i just think you will see it soon, might have taken him 15-20 games. and i don't think that was an entitled douche move he pulled, he wasn't going to be the sacrifice for the others to eat. |

Nope, not at all. All generations have had these issues, but the easier life becomes with technology advancements, the more expectations get lowered to fit into what is considered standard. - Glak18

Why not go with "Work smarter, not harder" - Glak18
I hate this phrase and prefer a modified version of it that I saw Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs use at a past Cisco Live and I quote, "People say work smarter not harder and I disagree. If you want to win, if you want to be elite you have to both work smarter and harder then everyone you are competing with"

Tampa Bay has a 225 lb, 21 year old RHD playing 18 minutes a night. He didn't even get to 100 games played in the AHL before being promoted.
“If there’s a surprise, it’s that he’s getting better,” Cooper said. “You sit and say, ‘OK, this kid is going to play in the NHL, it’s a matter of when. But there’s still some development to do.’ But he’s stepped right in, played with (McDonagh). … The one thing that he has done is he can handle the big boys. He can skate with the big boys. That’s the one thing that maybe we didn’t give him enough credit for until you see him do it.
“There’s nobody in the league we’ve seen yet that he hasn’t been able to handle physically. I’m not saying he’s going to win that battle, but at least it’s 50-50. And that’s good on a team that doesn’t have a lot of big guys.”
It's a shame the 28th ranked Flyers don't have a prospect on the level of Erik Cernak. |

Well personally I go by every day experience. I work in the IT industry and I see mentality gaps constantly. Not even from young, just recent college grads, but from late-20s who think showing up is just enough to get paid. A lot of them think they can't get fired or else they will sue. Seriously they really think that. They are getting paid to do the job asked of them, at any time they can be let go if they are no longer needed. I don't care about their bills or their life issues, everyone has them, just do the job or I will let you go. I've actually seen "grown men" cry when being yelled at, just take responsibility for your mistakes and correct them, don't make excuses. |

To a point I can see why working smarter and harder would be much more efficient, unfortunately in a lot of cases working harder tends to mean fixing mistakes. If you don't make those mistakes to begin with then the work doesn't become that hard. In reality a lot of people have to correct mistakes made by others in their jobs, but if everyone worked smarter there would be a lot less mistakes. |

1) Ok so that means he just needs to get in-game timing down, for a back to back 60 point scorer that's a couple games
2) It's ALREADY been a month and a half...a couple more weeks? Sooooo 2 months to get back to being a 60 point guy. Wait how many months is preseason?
Wow, absolute WOW. Imagine if every NHL player needed 2 months to get their game timing and adjust to pressure to begin every season... - Glak18
I know right, it's not like the pre-season and first few weeks of the regular season are much sloppier than the play in November is. |

The Flyers have a 22 year old defenseman playing as their top defenseman. He didn't play a single AHL game. |

You must work in an odd place, I'm 28, and the average age of the people in my company is ~33 (my office its closer to the 28) and we're the top company (in our field obviously) in the state. I always feel like I'm on my toes making sure things never get lost in the weeds or dropped due to A) it's my job, and B) fear of getting fired if I don't do my job. |

Yeah sounds like Nylander will always be behind everyone else, especially when playoff push comes then another gear for the playoffs. Probably better for him to take the year off then. |

To continue on with the point Mike Rowe was making at the closing CLUS keynote. You can succeed by aiming to work smarter and not harder but you can't truly excel if you don't do both.
I know you said you were in IT, same here as I'm in year 24 of my Telecom\Collab career. It wasnt until I adopted both that I moved into the Lead\Principal positions I have been in for the past 8 years.
Over those 24 years holistically I have learned there is no such thing as an infallible engineer. People are going to make mistakes, their isn't a single person in IT that hasn't at one time including you and me.
So yeah.. Compete, Get After it, sign Rinaldo and win! /high five |
